Abstract

A device for ripping logs or pieces of wood comprises a carrier (13) which is movable back and forth along an elongate, horizontal first guide (1) and on which is mounted a saw guide (23) carrying a driven saw chain and extending at an angle, preferably at right angles, to the guide so as to permit ripping a log (25) supported beside and substantially parallel to the guide. The device further comprises two supporting legs (3, 4), a cross bar (5), a guide means (6), an upright log carrier (7), a horizontal log carrier (11), and an upright second guide (12). A setting means (28) is arranged between the guide-supporting leg (3) and the second guide (12) and serves to adjust the distance between the supporting leg and the upper part of the second guide. Moreover, the connections between the cross bar (5) and, respectively, the second guide and the upright log carrier (7) are at least limitedly rotatable, whereas the connection between the upright and horizontal log carriers (7, 11) is rotationally rigid. An alteration of the distance between the guide-supporting leg and the upper part of the second guide, caused by an adjustment of the setting means, results in an alteration of the angle between the horizontal log carrier and a plane in which the saw guide is displaceable.
