Abstract

The splicing system aligns fibre ends with one another and positions the end surfaces adjacent to each other. The fibre parts adjacent to the abutting end surfaces are heated so that they fuse together. The repeated value of at least one optical property, on which the optical losses in the fibre splice are dependent, is determined during heating for the fibre area adjacent to the splice. - Heating is continued until the measured values of the optical properties for the areas adjacent to the splice have a deviation from one another below a predetermined threshold value. The optical value is the optical transmission dia. (MFD) for the fibre areas adjacent to the splice. The intensity of the light radiation from the fibre heated parts is recorded (29) during heating and the optical property is determined from the recorded light intensity.
