Abstract

This invention relates to a device for chucking a workpiece (32) in a machine tool (1). The device enables the same chuck (5) to be used for chucking different workpieces with dimensions which vary within relatively wide limits. The device consists of one or more attachment units (18) which are detachably secured to the chuck (5). The attachment unit (18) consists of a main body (20) and a number of radially displaceable second chucking mechanisms (21), which constitute a mechanical extension of the first chucking mechanisms arranged in the chuck (5). The machine tool can be converted or machining a workpiece with other dimensions by removing the attachment units or replacing them with new attachments with the same basic design, but with dimensions adapted to the new workpiece.
