Abstract

The lens effect is observed for light passing through the fibres (1) and the fibres are turned around their longitudinal axis to adopt a position in which the lens effect is either minimal of maximal. The light is made to pass from the side through the fibres, at right-angles to the fibre longitudinal axis. - As a measure of the lens effect, the light intensity is determined in a plane through or in the vicinity of the break line, which is obtained on the basis of the optical fibre effect as lens with the light passage through it. Each fibre end is turned until the intensity is either minimal or maximal. Components (29,31,33,39,41,43,45) are used to place the end surfaces of the optical fibres near to or against one another and central to one another with the fibre longitudinal axes aligned with each other or at least parallel with one another. Other components (25,37,33) are used to connect the fibres (1) to one another.
