DC60 (13/05/09) A system has been developed for the pre-treatment of cellulosic biomass feedstocks, comprising: a first pressurized reactor receiving the feedstock, where the feedstock is hydrolyzed in the first pressurized reactor; a sealing device having the first pressurized feedstock connected to the feedstock discharge section of the first pressurized reactor, and a second pressurized feedstock connected to the second pressurized reactor; a piping system comprising a dissolved hemicellulosic material extracted from the feedstock in at least one of the first pressurized reactors and a sealing and extraction device; a second pressurized reactor assembly receiving the pressurized feedstock from the sealing device at a pressure higher than the pressure in the intrinsic pressurized reactor, where the feedstock cells are supplied with water in the second pressurized reactor, and an expansion device oriented along the second pressurized reactor assembly, where the expansion device rapidly releases the pressure of the feedstock released from the second pressurized reactor, thus subjecting the feedstock to a steam eruption reaction.

1. : DC60 (13/05/09) A system has been developed for the pretreatment of cellulosic biomass feedstocks, comprising: a first pressurized reactor receiving the feedstock, wherein the feedstock is hydrolyzed in the first pressurized reactor; a sealing device having the first pressurized feedstock connected to the feedstock discharge section of the first pressurized reactor, and the second pressurized feedstock connected to the second pressurized reactor; a piping system comprising a dissolved hemicellulosic material extracted from the feedstock in at least one of the first pressurized reactors and a sealing and extraction device; a second pressurized reactor assembly receiving the pressurized feedstock from the sealing device at a pressure higher than the pressure in the intrinsic pressurized reactor, wherein the feedstock cells are supplied with water in the second pressurized reactor, and an expansion device oriented along the second pressurized reactor assembly, wherein the expansion device releases the pressure of the feedstock released from the pressurized reactor.
