ลูกคิด เป็นสื่อการเรียนการสอนที่รวบรวม การเรียนการสอนได้หลาย ๆ วิธี ไว้ในสื่อตัวเดียว เช่น การบวกลบคูณหารแบบ ลูกคิดนับอิสระ ลูกคิดฐานสิบ ลูกคิดแบบจีน ลูกคิดแบบญี่ปุ่น รวมทั้งการเรียนการสอนเรื่อง ทศนิยม ร้อยละ และเศษส่วนในบางกิจกรรม

1. รางลูกคิด ที่มีลักษณะเป็นกรอบสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า แบ่งออกเป็นช่องตามแนวยาวภายในกรอบ 3 ช่อง โดยมีแกนลูกคิดจำนวนมาก จัดไว้ตามแนวขวางของช่องทั้ง 3 ดังกล่าว โดยแต่ละแกนจะจัดไว้ให้พาด ผ่านช่องทั้ง 3 ดังกล่าว โดยมีลักษณะเฉพาะคือ ช่องที่ 1 มี ลูกคิด 1 ลูกสวมอยู่บนแกนลูกคิดแต่ละแกน ช่องที่ 2 จะมีลูกคิด 10 ลูก สวมอยู่บนแกนลูกคิดแต่ละแกน โดย ลูกคิดในแถวที่ ห้า ของช่องที่ 2 เมื่อนับ จากช่องที่ 1 ลงมา จะมีสีที่แตกต่างจากลูกคิดส่วนอื่น ๆ เพื่อเป็นสีบอกตำแหน่งและเขตแดนการใช้งาน และ ช่องที่ 3 จะมีลูกคิด 2 ลูก สวมอยู่บนแกนลูกคิดแต่ละแกน และในแต่ละช่องจะมีช่องว่างสำหรับการ เลื่อนลูกคิดเมื่อใช้งาน
