A type of disc case that holds a disk medium within it and is installed in a disc drive. It consists of a rectangular, flat enclosure with a slot for a tray and a hole for inserting the tray on one side, aligned with one direction of insertion into the disc drive; a tray with a recessed area on one surface to support the disk medium, which is retractable into the tray slot; a first interlocking mechanism within the enclosure to lock the tray in place and allow it to be released; and a second interlocking mechanism within the tray, positioned to correspond with the first interlocking mechanism. One direction of insertion or ejection of the tray into and out of the enclosure is chosen to be perpendicular to one direction of insertion or ejection of the disc case into and out of the disc drive.
