A quartz crystal resonator is one arm of the bridge, which generates a bridge signal that changes according to the resonator oscillation frequency. A corresponding demodulator responds to the bridge signal to generate an error signal, which is converted into a control signal. A control circuit receives the control signal and changes its reactance when the resonator ceases oscillating at an undisturbed resonant frequency, at which point the resonator oscillation frequency connected to the control circuit is returned to the resonant frequency. An automatic level control circuit is also included for controlling the absorption level of the signal that excites the resonator. Devices and methods are revealed for improving the oscillation frequency stability of the oscillator signal generated by an oscillator circuit in the desired form of this invention. A quartz crystal resonator serves as one arm of the bridge, generating a bridge signal that varies according to the resonator's oscillation frequency. A corresponding demodulator responds to the bridge signal to generate an error signal, which is then converted into a control signal. The control circuit receives the control signal and changes its reactance when the resonator ceases oscillating at an undisturbed resonant frequency. The resonator's oscillation frequency connected to the control circuit is then returned to the resonant frequency. An automatic level control circuit is also integrated to regulate the drive level of the resonator excitation signal.
