The process for workup mother liquid from the production of hydroxidaryl alkanes by reacting phenols with ketones and isoalkenyl phenols on an acidic catalyst where... 1. Phenols are removed from the drained mother liquid by immediate distillation of the bottom-receiving substance. The phenols are removed by distillation, collected by a basic catalyst, and continuously decomposed in the reaction rate adjustment step into phenols and isoalkenyls. The phenols pass overhead as a distillate and the bottom-receiving substance. 2. The reactant is mixed with an acidic catalyst and acidified. It is then continuously fed into a second reaction adjustment step and decomposes into phenol and a residue which is discarded. 3. The phenols from steps 1 and 2, and the isoalkinylphenols, which were selectively purified after further purification, were reintroduced into the reaction.
