DC60 (10/03/46) Multi-axis seamable fabric for the pressing section of a papermaking machine is produced from base fabric layers assembled by twisting strips of fabric together in multiple loops, each loop closely attached to the next. The resulting endless base fabric layer is flattened to create a first and second fabric layer, which are joined at the fold along its width. Transverse threads are removed from each loop of fabric strip at the fold on the width edge to create unfastened sections of longitudinal threads. The seamable base fabric, with seam rings along its width edge, is positioned between the first and second layers of the flattened base fabric. The seam rings protrude between the unfastened sections of longitudinal threads from between the first and second fabric layers. The first fabric layer, the seamable base fabric, and the second fabric layer are joined together by sewing the threads through each other. This fabric is joined in an endless manner during installation on the papermaking machine by inserting dowels into channels created by the interlocking sections of the seam rings on both of its width edges. Claims (15)

1. Multi-axis seamable fabric for the pressing section of a papermaking machine. This fabric consists of: a first base fabric; this first base fabric has first and second layers in a seamless base fabric arrangement; this seamless base fabric consists of fabric strips with a first side edge, a second side edge, numerous longitudinal threads, and numerous transverse threads. These fabric strips are twisted together multiple times, with the first side edge of one wrap adjacent to the second side edge of the next wrap. A continuous twisted seam is created separating the adjacent twists of the fabric strips. This seam is closed by fastening the first and second side edges of the fabric strips together. The result is a seamless base fabric layer with machine direction, machine direction, one inner surface, and one outer surface. This seamless base fabric is flattened to create the first and second fabric layers with two wide edges. These first and second fabric layers are joined together along their two wide edges at the fold. At least one transverse thread in each round of the fabric strip is removed from the fold at both wide edges, resulting in the unfastened portion of the longitudinal threads of the fabric strip at the fold. The second base fabric, a seamable base fabric, consists of longitudinal and transverse threads. These longitudinal threads form seam loops along both wide edges of the second base fabric. The second base fabric, excluding the seam loops, has a length equal to that of the first and second layers of the first base fabric. The second base fabric sits between the first and second layers; the seam loops of the second base fabric extend between the unfastened portions of the longitudinal threads from between the first and second layers. At least one layer of reinforcing fiber material is sewn into the first layer of the first and second layers and through the second base fabric to another set of the first and second layers to enclose the first, second, and second layers. 2. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on the machine according to claim 1, where the fabric strip is woven from the said longitudinal and cross-sectional threads. 3. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on a machine according to claim 2, where such fabric strip is a single-layer woven fabric. 4. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on a machine according to claim 2, where such fabric strip is a multi-layered woven fabric. 5. Multi-axis seamable fabrics as per claim 1, where the longitudinal and transverse threads of such fabric strips are made of synthetic polymer resin. 6. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on the machine according to claim 1, where the base fabric has side edges trimmed in a direction parallel to its machine. 7. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on the machine according to claim 1, where such fabric strips make an angle less than 10° with respect to the machine direction of the base fabric layer. 8. Multi-core fabrics capable of being machine-sealed according to Reputation 1, comprising at least one layer of binding fiber material sewn to another set of first and second layers of fabric. 9. Multi-axial seamable fabrics as per claim 1, where the binding fiber material is a polymer resin. 10. Multi-axial seamable fabrics pursuant to claim 9, where the polymer resin material is selected from a group consisting of polyamide and polyester resins. 11. Multi-axis pressed fabric capable of being seamed on the machine according to claim 1, where such secondary base fabric is woven from such longitudinal and transverse threads. 12. Multi-core pressed fabric capable of being machine-stitched according to claim 11, where such secondary base fabric is a single-layer woven fabric. 13. Multi-layered seamable fabrics according to claim 11, where such secondary base fabric is a multi-layered woven fabric. 14. Multi-axial fabric capable of being machine-sealed according to claim 1, where the longitudinal and transverse threads of the second base layer fabric are made of synthetic polymer resin. 15. Multi-core pressed fabric capable of being machine-sealed according to claim 1, where the longitudinal threads of the second base layer are single threads.
