The process of generating electricity from natural gas using a solid oxide fuel cell consists of the following steps: (a) the anode side of the fuel cell is converted from natural gas to hydrogen and carbon monoxide, allowing cathode and anode reactions to occur, creating an anode-cathode potential difference, resulting in the formation of anode gases consisting of water and carbon dioxide; (b) the removal of oxygen-free oxidants from the cathode outlet and the separation of anode gases from the anode outlet; (c) the feeding of anode gases from the anode outlet of the fuel cell to a post-combustion unit; (d) partial condensation of the anode gases and separation of water from the anode gases to create a stream with a high carbon dioxide content; (e) the compression of the carbon dioxide-rich stream to a specified pressure; and (f) the cooling of the compressed carbon dioxide-rich stream, at least partially, by indirect heat exchange with the natural gas stream supplied to the cell. The fuel is obtained by obtaining a stream containing at least partially liquefied carbon dioxide; (g) the separation of the uncondensed gas from the stream containing at least partially liquefied carbon dioxide; and (h) the injection of at least partially liquefied carbon dioxide-containing liquid stream into the receiver; which is characterized by the fact that step (c) of feeding the gas exit from the anode to the post-combustion unit consists of feeding the gas exit from the anode to the post-combustion unit in which unburned carbon monoxide and hydrogen are burned without the addition of sufficient nitrogen to the gas exit from the anode.

The process claimed in claim 1, where step (a) involves allowing a heated, low-pressure stream of natural gas to react with water at the anode of a solid oxide fuel cell to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide, and allowing cathode-anode reactions to occur to create an anode-cathode potential difference in which a gas consisting of water and carbon dioxide is produced at the anode.
