The mass to be permeated may contain one or more fillers embedded in the boron carbide for fabrication by reactive permeation. This component consists of a matrix of metal-boron-encapsulated compounds embedded with fillers. The relative volume of the reactant and process conditions can be varied or controlled by using ceramic, metal, and/or pore-bearing bodies of varying volumes.

Claims

1. The method for fabricating a self-adhesive body consists of: (a) selection of a magnet metal; (b) heating the magnet metal in an inert atmosphere to a temperature above its melting point to form a molten magnet, and then contacting the molten magnet with a mass containing boron carbide; (c) maintaining this temperature for a sufficient time for the molten magnet metal to penetrate the mass and for the molten magnet metal to react with the boron carbide to form one or more boron-containing compounds; and (d) maintaining this penetration for a sufficient time to produce a self-adhesive body composed of one or more boron-containing compounds.
