An internally encoded image can be decoded independently of any images being placed, and the ancillary information including information for identifying the image to be decoded at the time the combined images in each random access unit are played in the stream.

1. : DC60 To provide motion picture and similar stream generation devices that generate streams of motion picture data that can be played back in playback modes such as variable speed playback and reverse playback, even in coding formats such as MPEG-4 AVC, where a flexible predictive structure is permitted; the motion picture stream generation devices include: a TricPlay playback information generation unit for generating additional information based on random access units, the additional information being referenced at the time of playback of each random access unit and each random access unit including one or more images; and a VLC variable-length encoding unit for generating streams including additional information generated and one or more images by adding additional information to each corresponding random access unit at the top of each random access unit, internally encoded images that can be decoded independent of any images being placed, and the additional information including information for identifying the images to be decoded at the time when the images included in each random access unit are played back in playback modes; to provide motion picture and similar stream generation devices that generate streams of motion picture data that can be played back in playback modes such as variable speed playback and reverse playback. Even in coding formats, such as MPEG-4 AVC, where a flexible predictive structure is allowed, the motion picture stream generation device includes: a TricPlay playback information generation unit for generating additional information based on random access units, the additional information being referred to at the time of playback of each random access unit, and each random access unit including one or more images; and a VLC non-fixed-length encoding unit for generating streams including additional information generated and one or more images by appending additional information to each corresponding random access unit, at the top of each random access unit, an internally encoded image that can be decoded independent of any images being placed, and the additional information including information for identifying the image to be decoded at the time when the images included in each random access unit are played in the playback of the gimmick.
