Abstract

An absorbent pad is provided for use in the groin area. It features an absorbent core with an upper surface facing the body and a lower surface facing the clothing. It has two longitudinal sides and two transverse ends. A fluid-impermeable envelope, with upper and lower sections each having longitudinal and transverse borders along these connections, surrounds the absorbent core, at least completely enclosing the clothing-facing surface and all longitudinal and transverse ends, thus forming a seal. A centrally located opening is created in the upper part of the sealing envelope, thus forming an opening on the body-facing surface of the absorbent core, which is exposed to fluid flow. A fluid-permeable layer covers at least the portion of the body-facing surface on which the opening is located. The upper part of the sealing envelope and the permeable layer are joined to form another laminated layer. The opening is created in a non-woven textile covering the longitudinal sides of the absorbent core, and the opening is covered by a porous plastic film.

Claims (10)

1. An absorbent for use in the groin area, consisting of a) an absorbent core (7) with (i) a body-facing top surface (16) and a garment-facing bottom surface (17), (ii) the first and second longitudinal sides (4), and (iii) the first and second transverse ends (3), and b) a permeable top sheet (8, 21) placed over the body-facing top surface (16), and c) a non-permeable, leak-proof envelope (10,11) made around the said absorbent core (7) is characterized by such that the envelope (10,11) encloses at least the entire garment-facing surface (17), the aforementioned longitudinal sides (4), and transverse ends (3), but does not cover the portion of the body-facing surface (16), thus leaving an open portion (6), where the envelope (10,11) is sandwiched between the garment-facing top sheet (8,21). 2. An adsorbent under claim 1 in which part (6) of the body-facing surface not covered by the said encapsulation (10,11) is placed directly in front of the body-facing surface (16). 3. The adsorbent under claim 1, in which the enclosure (10,11) shall consist of a leak-proof enclosure made of a material that is impermeable to bodily fluids. 4. The adsorbent under claim 3 also consists of a permeable layer (8) enclosing at least (6) of the body-facing surfaces (16) not covered by the aforementioned leak-proof wrapping (10,11). 5. The absorbent under claim 4, in which the aforementioned waterproof envelope (10,11) consists of an upper (10) and a lower (11) section, each with longitudinal (27,28) and transverse (25,26) extensions which are connected. The lower (11) section is placed in contact with the surface facing the garment (16). The upper (10) section has an opening made in it by overlapping the section of the body-facing surface not covered by the envelope (10,11), thus forming the window (6). 6. The method of making an absorbent for use in the groin area of the body consists of the following steps: a) cutting an opening (6) in the first sheet (10,29) made of the first material; b) joining the first sheet (10,29) with a second sheet (6,30) made of a material that is impermeable to body fluids, thus creating a layer (9,22) in which at least part of it will be The lamination of the first (10,29) and second (8,30) layers is such that the lamination layer (9,22) is wrapped around the absorbent core (7) with its body-facing surface (16) and clothing-facing surface (17), thus enclosing the absorbent core (7), with the opening (6) forming a window on the body-facing surface (16); or in such a way that the absorbent core (7) with its body-facing surface (16) and clothing-facing surface (17) is placed between the lamination layer (9,22) and the second (11,31) layer made of body fluid impermeable material, and the connection of the lamination layer (9,22) and the second (11,31) thus enclosing the absorbent core (7), with the opening (6) forming a window (6) on the body-facing surface (16). 7. The procedure under claim 6, in which the joint (9) shall have the first and second longitudinal edges and shall also consist of the procedure of joining the first longitudinal edge to the second longitudinal edge. 8. The procedure under claim 6 where such first material (10,29) shall be impermeable to bodily fluids and such adsorbent core (7) shall have first and second longitudinal projections (4) and first and second transverse projections (3), and where such encapsulation procedure (9) around such adsorbent core (7) also consists of encapsulating such adsorbent core (7) so that such first sheet (10) encloses such longitudinal (4) and such transverse (3) ends of such adsorbent core (7), where such first sheet (10) shall act as an impermeable bodily fluid barrier enclosing such longitudinal (4) and such transverse (3) ends. 9. The procedure under claim 8 where a) such first material (20) shall be a non-woven textile; b) such second sheet (21) shall be made of a plastic film with pores; c) such absorbent core (7) shall have first and second longitudinally protruding sides (4); and d) the procedure of wrapping such interlayer (9) around the absorbent core (7) shall also consist of wrapping such absorbent core (7) so that such first sheet (20) shall be positioned outward from such second sheet (21) and enclose such first and second longitudinally protruding sides (4) of such absorbent core (7) so that such first sheet (20) shall be adjusted to make contact with the thigh during use. 10. The method according to claim 6, where each of the first (9,22) and second (11,30) layers has a longitudinal overhang of the first and second (27,26) and a transverse overhang of the first and second (25,26) edges, and where such a step of joining the first (9,22) and second (11,30) layers consists of joining such pieces along their relative longitudinal (27,28) and transverse (25,26) edges.
