Abstract

The invention DC60 provides a method and system for asynchronous supplemental service signaling in a telephone network. The method comprises the initiation of a call between a sender and a receiver on the telephone network, including the generation of a telephone request and the disconnection of the call before a complete connection is reached, occurring simultaneously. Asynchronous communication is initiated between the sender and receiver using information in the telephone request. The call may be disconnected before the allocation of traffic channel or before the generation of a call signal at the receiver's device. In one instance, the call is disconnected after the telephone request is received by the originating mobile switching center but before the arrangement of a continuation call. A disconnected call in this manner can be used to initiate the transmission of another message or service without using the voice circuit on the network. Claims (28)

1. The method consists of: initiating a call between the sender and receiver on the telephone network, including the generation of a call request, disconnecting the call before a complete connection is achieved, and initiating asynchronous communication simultaneously between the sender and receiver using the information in the call request. 2. Method of Claim 1 where the call is released prior to the allocation of traffic channel. 3. Method of Claim 1 where the call is released prior to the generation of the call signal at the receiver's device. 4. Method of Claim 1 where the call is released after the request for a call is received by the originating mobile switching center but before the arrangement of a continuation call is made. 5. Method of Claim 1 in which a call is released after receipt of a call request by the originating mobile switching center. This method includes call release which provides for a related connection request that is not transferred between the originating mobile switching center and the service mobile switching center. 6. Method of Claim 1 where the call is released before the generation of a callback signal at the sender's device. 7. Method of Claim 1 where the calling of the method is released prior to a declaration that the recipient is unavailable. 8. Method of claim 1 where the call is released prior to rerouting to voicemail. 9. Method of Claim 1 where the call is released prior to the declaration of an error in the connection. 10. Method of claim 1 in which the call is released during the creation of the call. 11. Method of Claim 1 where a call is dropped due to network congestion. 12. Method of claim 1 in which the call is released by the telephone network. 13. Method of claim 1 in which the initiation of asynchronous communication includes the transmission of a message to the recipient's device. 14. The method of claim 13, which further consists of sending a message to the sender's device. 15. Method of claim 13 where the message includes a request to initiate a call to the sender. 16. Method of claim 1 where the telephone request includes both the recipient's identifier and additional information. 17. Method of claim 16 where additional information will include the code and method will include communication with the recipient consistent with the code. 18. Method of Claim 1 where asynchronous communication is the message. 19. The method of claim 18 in which the information will include links. 20. The method of claim 19 in which the link will reference the content for transmission to the recipient or sender. 21. The method of claim 1, which further comprises both the determination of the receiver type and the use of the type, when initiating asynchronous communication, which includes differential communication between at least two receivers based on type. 22. The method of claim 1, which further comprises both the receiving of personalized information from the sender and the use of personalized information in asynchronous communications with the receiver. 23. The method of claim 22, in which the use of information is personalized, includes the use of information to determine how to communicate with the recipient. 24. The method of claim 22, in which the use of information is personalized, includes the use of information to personalize the content of messages to be communicated to the recipient. 25. Method of claim 1 where call release includes call release at the sender without user interaction. 26. Method of claim 25, in which the call is initiated and automatically released, responds to the operation of a single control on the sender's device. 27.
