Abstract

A drivetrain assembly 12 is responsible for a driving signal from the force assembly to convert the action of the force assembly into a movement of the brush head assembly. A magnet 30 is fixed behind the drive train by a Hall effect sensor 32 mounted within the magnetic field generated by the magnet as the toothbrush moves in operation. The print on the brush element produces a phase shift of the Hall sensor output. A processor 15 determines the value of the phase shift of the Hall sensor signal as pressure is applied to the brush element and generates an indication of the applied print through the use of stored information 71 that correlates the phase shift to the print for the particular device.
