Abstract
The present invention provides an inexpensive and small discharge lamp lighting device whereby a discharge lamp can be lighted or put out by switching on and off electric power to a discharge lamp load circuit with a small control current. This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with an inverter circuit having two switching elements 2, 3 to convert a DC current supplied from a DC power supply 1 to a high frequency current, a choke coil 5 connected parallel to one switching element of the inverter circuit, a discharge lamp load circuit L10 comprising a series circuit of a coupling capacitor 8 connected to the choke coil 5 through the discharge lamp 6, secondary windings 5a, 5b provided in the choke coil 5, a switching circuit to switch on and off the oscillation of the inverter circuit by bypassing a current passing the control terminals of the switching elements 2, 3 or by preventing it from bypassing, and an output control circuit SW10 to output an ON/OFF control signal to the switching circuit.
