Abstract

The laser welding apparatus for carrying out welding by irradiating laser beams on workpieces comprises a laser beam irradiating means for irradiating the laser beam at a required period of a pulse, and an irradiating position changing means for changing the position of the workpiece irradiated with the laser beam for each period of the pulse. The irradiating position changing means changes the position irradiated with the laser beam so that the neighborhood of the position irradiated with the laser beam is not successively irradiated with the laser beam. By this method, the number of irradiation of the laser beams per unit time on the almost same position of the workpiece can be reduced. As a result, the laser welding apparatus can carry out welding for the workpiece with excellent heat balance. Further, because the number of the irradiation on the almost same position of the workpiece is reduced without lengthening the period of the pulse of the laser beam, a time necessary for the welding work is not prolonged.
