Abstract

A display unit having getter film (23) formed by superimposing getter member (22) on light shielding layer (20) of a phosphor screen of front panel. The getter member (22) has a nonvolatile getter of 200 m or less particle diameter and a coating material that covers the nonvolatile getter and that by activation treatment, is gasified and diffused. The getter film is formed on the light shielding layer before vacuum evacuation of the vacuum enclosure and activated simultaneously with the vacuum evacuation.
