Abstract
An apparatus for detecting breaking of fiber-optic closed loop for a passive optical network PON (passive optical network) system is presented, it uses the fiber bragg grating to detect intensity of a reflected lightwave, and to determine whether the fiber-optic closed loop is broken or not and whether the light loss thereof is too large, so as to differentiate the electrical system control from the fiber-optic closed loop in determining which one is faulty; this invention uses 1550 nm fiber bragg grating (FBG) as the main component in corporation with the 1550 nm optical band-pass filter, the optical circulator, the adjustable laser source and the optical power meter together to constitute a the detecting apparatus. The detecting apparatus is a low-cost technology of fiber-optic closed loop and can be abundantly reproduced and fabricated, and can be used in a general control room to determine whether the user's fiber-optic closed loop is broken or not and whether the light loss thereof is too large, so as to enormously reduce the cost of maintenance and repair outside.
