Abstract
To provide a chromium-free aqueous metal surface treating agent which has corrosion resistance, blackening resistance and heat yellowing resistance equal or superior to chromate, and which is also long-term stable in high concentration over a wide range of pH while being able to impart chemical resistance, coating adhesiveness, fingerprint resistance and workability. A chromium-free aqueous metal surface treating agent (A) is obtained by addition of at least one kind of vanadium compound (a) represented by the general formula (I): (M)x[(VO)(OH)y(P)z(F)w]......(I) (wherein, M is a cation; P is a phosphorous-containing anion; F is a fluorine-containing anion; x is 0 to 10; y is 0 to 10; z is 0 to 10; w is 0 to 10; z+w = 0.2 or more; and the valence number of V is 4 or 3).
