Abstract

A self-tightening shoe comprising: (i) a shoe casing for housing at least a portion of the wearer^s foot; (ii) at least one strap responding to the pulling force applied thereon to tighten the shoe casing around the wearer^s instep placed in the shoe casing; and (iii) a retractor installed on the shoe casing and connected to said at least one strap which is suitable for applying a pulling force to the strap, the retractor comprising: (a) an elastic member connected to the retractor and to the strap; (b) a charging mechanism operable by the wearer to tighten the elastic member; (c) a catch releasably holding the elastic member into an extended status such that the strap is released by the pulling force to allow the insertion or removal of the wearer^s foot when the elastic member is held into the extended status; and (d) a releasing device for selectively releasing the catch which allows the elastic member to unload and apply a pulling force on the strap.
