Description

本發明係針對一種包含多重板片外罩的運動球,其中該等板片之一或多個邊在不必縫合之情況下結合在一起,且在板片邊界處藉由位於該等板片之內部表面上的加強材料予以加強。外罩包含一已熱結合至加強材料坯料之外罩板片坯料。
現參看圖1至圖11,說明根據本發明之較佳實施例的諸如足球之運動球10。如圖1A及圖1B中所展示,運動球10包含一充氣囊20,該充氣囊20具有一習知氣閥25。運動球10亦包含一經加強之外罩30,該經加強之外罩30由已熱結合在一起之一或多個外罩板片坯料35及一或多個加強材料坯料65形成。外罩板片坯料35在其上具有板片圖案,例如,根據典型足球圖案之包含十二個五邊形板片及二十個六邊形板片的板片圖案。板片圖案藉由內部板片邊界43界定,且加強材料僅沿內部板片邊界定位,以便模擬習知接縫。如熟習此項技術者所知曉,一或多個可選中間層(未圖示)可駐留於經加強之外罩30與囊20之間。
充氣囊20通常由任一可撓材料製成。例示性材料包括丁基橡膠、天然橡膠、丁基橡膠與天然橡膠之組合、乳膠及其他彈性材料。在尤其較佳實施例中,囊20由80%丁基橡膠及20%天然橡膠製成。充氣囊經調適以經由氣閥25充飽氣以在經加強之外罩30內形成實質上球形形狀。
經加強之外罩30包含已熱結合在一起之一或多個外罩板片坯料35及一或多個加強材料坯料65。如本文中所利用,術語「熱結合」或其變體被定義為兩個元件之間的涉及元件中之至少一者的熔融或軟化使得元件之材料在冷卻時緊固至彼此的緊固技術。一般而言,熱結合可涉及外罩材料及加強材料之熔融或軟化,使得該等材料在冷卻時緊固在一起。因此,熱結合通常並不涉及使用縫合或黏著劑。而是,兩個元件藉由熱直接結合至彼此。然而,在一些情形下,縫合或黏著劑可用以補充元件之經由熱結合的接合。
在例示性態樣中,經加強之外罩30包含由外罩材料製成之兩個或兩個以上外罩板片坯料。外罩板片坯料由板片片材形成,該板片片材包含具有如下文更詳細論述之板片圖案之連續外罩材料片材。將加強材料應用至外罩板片坯料以便有助於將外罩板片坯料熱結合在一起。
外罩材料32較佳包含通常係耐用且耐磨之以下各者中的一或多者:合成皮革、熱塑性胺基甲酸酯、聚胺基甲酸酯、聚氯乙烯、熱塑性彈性體、橡膠、各種其他熱塑性或熱固性材料或其他合適材料,不管為合成的抑或天然的。在一些組態中,外罩材料可具有一組合兩種或兩種以上材料之層化組態,該等材料通常被共擠出。舉例而言,外罩材料之外部部分可由聚胺基甲酸酯或聚氯乙烯形成,且外罩材料之內部部分可由紡織品元件(例如,編織物或不織物)形成。亦即,充當襯底或支撐件之紡織品元件可結合至聚胺基甲酸酯或聚氯乙烯,且接近囊而定位。外罩材料通常具有在約0.5mm至4mm(例如,約0.5、1.0、1.5、2.0、2.5、3.0、3.5或4.0mm)之範圍中的厚度。
在較佳實施例中,具有板片圖案40之板片片材37係使用流動模製裝置由外罩材料形成。一般而言,如圖2中所展示,例示性流動模製裝置110包括第一電極112及第二電極114,其兩者連接至一可操作以在電極之間產生交流射頻電場的電磁能量源(未圖示)。交流射頻電場可以在1MHz至500MHz之範圍中的頻率產生,較佳以在10MHz至200MHz之範圍中的頻率產生,且最佳以27.12MHz或40.68 MHz產生。通常,施加能量歷時約10至30秒(例如,約10、15、20、25或30秒)。第一模具116及第二模具118亦包括於裝置內,第一模具116及第二模具118一起在其之間界定板片片材模穴120。將外罩材料32置放於板片片材模穴120內,以便將外罩材料32模製成板片片材37。

加強材料坯料65經組態並塑形,使得其可與外罩板片坯料35之自由邊緣48對準,且較佳亦與內部板片邊界43對準,以形成經加強之球外罩或外罩部分。通常藉由將合適材料刀模切割成所要組態來製備加強材料坯料65。
在圖6中說明例示性加強材料坯料65。加強材料坯料65包含複數個經鏈接之多邊形外形70,其中多邊形外形之每一頂點72含有一自該頂點72延伸的輻射臂74。來自每一多邊形外形之輻射臂74中的一者具有Y狀末端76,而來自每一多邊形外形之四個其他輻射臂74為大體上線性且長度為等距的。通常,加強材料坯料之寬度為約6至25mm(例如,約6、7、8、9、10、11、12、13、14、15、16、17、18、19、20、21、22、23、24或25mm寬,且較佳為約10至18mm寬,且最佳為約14mm寬)。寬度經設計以遵循習知手縫接縫的寬度。在一些實施例中,加強材料坯料之寬度稍寬於習知手縫接縫,以便改良球之總體效能。
將易於瞭解,加強材料坯料65之組態可包含複數個加強材料坯料部分而非如圖6中所說明的單一加強材料坯料。舉例而言,圖6中所說明之五個五邊形外形中的每一者可為分離之加強材料坯料部分。另外,每一五邊形之數個區段可經分離地製造(例如,加強材料坯料部分可為五邊形的兩個邊)。包含單件加強材料(與數個區段相對)之加強材料坯料65為較佳的,此係因為此情形減少了與運動球之製備相關聯的時間。
另外,應瞭解,加強材料坯料65之組態將視外罩板片坯料35中之板片圖案40而變化。因此,視外罩板片坯料中之板片圖案40的性質而定,加強材料坯料可包括三角形、正方形、矩形、五邊形、六邊形、梯形、圓形或甚至橢圓形外形。
在形成外罩板片坯料35及加強材料坯料65之後,接著將兩者熱結合在一起以形成遊戲球之外罩或外罩部分。在較佳實施例中,使用流動模製裝置(例如,使用介電加熱)將材料熱結合在一起。在圖7至圖8中說明例示性流動模製裝置200。一般而言,流動模製裝置包括一頂部電極212及一底部電極214,其兩者連接至一可操作以在電極之間產生交流射頻電場的電磁能量源(未圖示)。如大體上在以引用之方式併入之Marc的美國專利第4,268,238號中所論述,電極212、214形狀較佳為球形,使得球之半球將被均勻加熱。

為了組裝運動球,將經加強之球外罩30的第一半球形外罩部分50及第二半球形外罩部分52熱結合在一起。在一較佳態樣中,球外罩之第一半球形外罩部分50及第二半球形外罩部分52僅在半球形外罩部分中之每一者的重疊區域處熱結合在一起。兩個半球形外罩部分50、52中之一者在板片中之一者中(例如,在中心五邊形板片44a中)亦具有一刀模切割孔洞55從而定位囊閥25。

在圖11中說明例示性流動模製裝置500。一般而言,流動模製裝置包括一外部電極512及一收容於囊20中的內部導電流體。內部導電流體充當內部電極514。外部電極512及內部電極514兩者連接至一可操作以在電極之間產生交流電場的電磁能量源(未圖示)。外部模具516亦包括於裝置內。囊20充當內部模具518。模穴界定於外部模具516與內部模具(囊)518之間。總體組態(外部電極512及外部模具516兩者)的形狀為球形,儘管外部電極512及外部模具516可包含複數個區段550、552以准許外罩板片坯料35、加強材料坯料65、囊20及最終球10進出該裝置之置放及移除。外部模具516含有用於容納外罩板片坯料35中之板片圖案40中之相應板片的複數個圖案化之板片凹座517a,及待與外罩板片坯料35之內部板片邊界43及自由邊緣48對準的突起517b。另外,外部電極及外部模具512具有至少一孔洞519,在該孔洞519中,導電流體514可經注入或移除,及/或射頻產生器可附接至電極。
為了建構根據此實施例的足球,分離流動模製裝置之第一區段550與流動模製裝置之第二區段552。接著在外部模具516之相應板片凹座517a內對準外罩板片坯料35的多邊形板片。對準突起517b與外罩板片坯料35之內部板片邊界43及自由邊緣48。接著將加強材料坯料65置放於外罩板片坯料35上,使得外罩板片坯料35之內部板片邊界43及自由邊緣48與加強材料坯料65對準。膠帶或其他黏著劑可用以將加強材料坯料65臨時緊固至外罩板片坯料35。接著使模製裝置之區段550、552閉合。可經由孔洞519將額外液體導電材料注入至囊20中,以確保囊填滿模穴內部並提供足夠壓力。液體導電材料推動囊20抵靠加強材料坯料65及外罩板片坯料35,且因此囊20充當內部模具418。
接著在外部電極512與內部電極514之間產生交流電場。交流電場可以在1MHz至500MHz的範圍中之頻率產生,較佳以在10MHz至200MHz的範圍中之頻率產生,且最佳以27.12MHz或40.68MHz產生。模製裝置之區段550、552接著經開啟以移除具有經加強之外罩30的球10。經加強之外罩因此包含複數個板片之外罩材料,其中沿外罩材料之內部板片邊界以及以前的「自由」邊緣(在熱結合之後不再為自由的)熱結合加強材料。可接著經由孔洞519移除液態導電流體,且可使用已插入至孔洞519中之氣閥25藉由空氣或其他氣體使囊20充氣。
雖然前述實施例利用藉由導電流體填滿之囊20作為內部電極514,但內部電極可包含其他材料。舉例而言,內部電極514可包含已塗佈有導電材料(諸如,銀)之囊20。囊20可藉由液體或氣體(諸如,水)填滿。囊20上之導電材料塗層因此在熱結合製程期間充當內部電極514。
如上文所論述,關於各種例示性實施例來描述本發明。在一實施例中,經加強之外罩30包含兩個半球形外罩部分50、52,該等半球形外罩部分50、52包含球外罩的大約50%。每一半球形外罩部分包含熱結合在一起之外罩板片坯料35及加強材料坯料65。半球形外罩部分50、52中之每一者接著熱結合在一起以形成完整球10。在第二實施例中,外罩包含外罩板片坯料35及加強材料坯料65,其在單一步驟中熱結合在一起以形成球形經加強之外罩30,使得不形成中間半球形外罩部分50、52。
根據前述內容,應瞭解,可利用一或多個外罩板片坯料35及一或多個加強材料坯料65。舉例而言,外罩板片坯料中之每一者可包含球外罩之約10%、20%、30%、40%、50%、60%、70%、80%、90%,或其某一組合。作為更特定實例,可使用四個包含兩個六邊形板片及一五邊形板片之外罩板片坯料,及第五個包含兩個五邊形板片及兩個六邊形板片的外罩板片坯料形成半球形外罩部分。亦即,第一外罩板片坯料將包含內部五邊形板片44a、內部六邊形板片46a、外部六邊形板片46f及外部五邊形板片44b。第二外罩板片坯料將包含內部六邊形板片46b、外部六邊形板片46g及外部五邊形板片44c。第三外罩板片坯料將包含內部六邊形板片46c、外部六邊形板片46h及外部五邊形板片44d。第四外罩板片坯料將包含內部六邊形板片46d、外部六邊形板片46i及外部五邊形板片44e。第五外罩板片坯料將包含內部六邊形板片46e、外部六邊形板片46j及外部五邊形板片44f。外罩板片坯料35之各種圖案及組態為基本上無限的。同樣,加強材料坯料65之多邊形外形不需要鏈接在一起,且每一多邊形之區段可被分離地製造(例如,五邊形之兩個邊)。本發明預期到外罩板片坯料35及加強材料坯料65之各種組合,只要加強材料與內部板片邊界對準便可。
可以預料,根據本發明製造之運動球具有增強球之效能的結構元件。加強材料模擬習知運動球之總體組態,在習知球中,個別板片被手縫在一起以製造內部接縫。然而,與在手縫時可能具有瑕疵之球形成對比,藉由模製外罩,運動球為完全球形的。此外,藉由消除對外罩中縫合接縫的需要,可製備不透水之球。另外,外罩之結構繼續允許球在衝擊部位處變形。結果,在足球之狀況下,例如,足球將以類似於其中將板片手縫在一起之習知足球的方式旋轉。一般而言,相較於使用手縫板片製造之習知相應運動球,具有根據本發明之外罩的球應實際上更快地回彈至其原始形狀。此情形為有利的,此係因為根據本發明製造之運動球在空中將展現較少擺動。

Claims (50)
- 一種運動球,其包含:第一外罩部分,其包含結合至第一加強材料坯料之第一外罩板片坯料,其中該第一外罩板片坯料係由包含複數個板片之第一板片片材所形成,該複數個板片為彎曲以具有該運動球之曲率半徑,其中該第一板片片材經組態以使得該等板片中之每一者整體連接至該片材之鄰近板片,且其中該第一加強材料坯料包含複數個經鏈接之多邊形外形;第二外罩部分,其包含結合至第二加強材料坯料之第二外罩板片坯料,其中該第二外罩板片坯料係由包含複數個板片之第二板片片材所形成,該複數個板片為彎曲以具有該運動球之曲率半徑,其中該第二板片片材經組態以使得該等板片中之每一者整體連接至該片材之鄰近板片,且其中該第二加強材料坯料包含複數個經鏈接之多邊形外形;且其中該第一外罩部分熱結合至該第二外罩部分以形成該運動球。
