Description

多層次容器
本發明係一種多層次容器,特別係指一種以澱粉為基底之多層次容器。
目前用來解決不可回收之食品容器產品所造成的環境問題的一種方法,係製造以澱粉為基底(以下稱為澱粉基)的不可回收食物器具,如托盤、盤子及碗。由於此澱粉基之可分解食物器具係透過加熱模具製造而成,因此這些器具中大部分甚至全部的澱粉均會被加熱,而加熱後的澱粉對於濕氣很敏感。當加熱後的澱粉接觸到水、其他水性液體、或大量的水蒸氣時,這些器具可能會變得非常柔軟,失去穩定之型態並易於刺穿。在部分應用中,這些器具對濕氣的敏感度係一個缺點,特別係關於需要高濕氣的應用,如即食餐、烘烤食品、冷凍即食食品、冷凍食品、湯及麵碗、咖啡杯、熱巧克力杯、及其他飲料杯、麥片碗、冰淇淋及優格杯、及其他類似之高濕氣應用。另一方面,這種澱粉基之產品係可取的,因為它們能夠承受更高的溫度,使得它們可作為許多上述應用之容器,且他們可易於做成堆肥。
澱粉基之器具之另一特性為,可將此澱粉基之器具應用在包裝上,這是因為此澱粉基之器具可有效抵抗氧氣或其他氣體之滲透。然而,澱粉物品通常無法抵抗氧氣及其他氣體之滲透,故需要將澱粉組成物及/或物品本身做部分修飾改良,以提供更好的阻隔性質。
在習知技藝中,非生物可降解及生物可降解之薄膜具有可接受之濕氣及氧氣之阻隔能力。然而,將其層壓於生物可降解的硬紙板、紙或塑料材料,以使其具有功效時,這些薄膜附著在硬紙板、紙或塑料材料上,使得生物可降解和非生物可降解之部分無法輕易分離,實際上將失去生物可降解部分對環境的幫助。
因此,在此技術領域中需要一種改良的容器,其包含更高的防潮性、更好的氧氣或其他氣體之阻隔能力、及生物可降解的環保特性,使得各個部分更易於處理。
本發明之一實施例為一可部分生物降解之系統,包含一非生物可降解之薄膜部分及一生物可降解之結構部分,其中該非生物可降解部分可輕易從該生物可降解部分分離,藉以處理該系統。在部分實施例中,該系統更包含一由非生物可降解薄膜構成之頂蓋層,其係附著於第一非生物可降解之薄膜部分,藉以形成一可保存食物或飲料之密閉空間。
本發明之另一實施例係關於製造一可部分生物降解之系統之一方法,其包含一非生物可降解之薄膜部分及一生物可降解部分,且其中該非生物可降解之薄膜部分可輕易從該生物可降解部分分離。
本發明之再一實施例係一生物可降解之系統,其包含一第一生物可降解之薄膜部分及一生物可降解之結構部分,其中該第一生物可降解之薄膜部分可輕易從該生物可降解之結構部分分離,藉以處理該系統。在部分實施例中,該系統更包含一由第二生物可降解之薄膜部分所構成之頂蓋層,其係附著於該第一生物可降解之薄膜部分,藉以形成一可保存食物或飲料之密閉空間。
為了充分了解以上所述之發明內容及其他優點及根據本發明所能得到的成果,將藉由相關之具體實施例以提供更詳細的描述。本發明之其他特性和優點可明顯地由以下的實施方式而得知。應該理解,下列的實施方式及具體實施例係指本發明之較佳實施例,其僅係用以說明而已,在本發明之精神及範疇之下,該領域之技藝者可藉由此實施方式進行各種變化及修改。
本發明之一實施例係關於一可部分生物降解之系統,其包含一生物可降解(biodegradable)部分及一非生物可降解部分。生物可降解部分係一加工成所需形狀之生物可降解材料,如食物器具或其他容器,包含杯、盤、碟、掀蓋盒、及碗。非生物可降解部分係一非生物可降解之薄膜,其附著於該生物可降解部分之表面,其中,非生物可降解部分及生物可降解部分可輕易地分離,藉以分別處理此二部分。
請參見圖一,此可部分生物降解之系統包含一生物可降解之杯狀部分103、一非生物可降解薄膜之內薄膜102,藉以襯著該生物可降解之杯狀部分103之內表面、及一頂蓋薄膜層101。頂蓋薄膜層101係附著於非生物可降解之內薄膜102之頂部、生物可降解之杯狀部分103之頂部、或該二者之頂部,並與非生物可降解之內薄膜102形成一個密封的空間。此空間可用以保護和增加食物、飲料、或放置於該空間內之其他物質之壽命。在部分實施例中,該內薄膜102及頂蓋薄膜層101係相同材料或不同材料,且頂蓋薄膜層101可輕易地從內薄膜102上剝離。在部分實施例中,相較於頂蓋薄膜層101對於非生物可降解之內薄膜102,非生物可降解之內薄膜102對於生物可降解之杯狀部分103具有較強的附著力,使得這兩個薄膜部分可輕易分離。在其他實施例中,可利用其他手段以利於分離頂蓋薄膜層101及內薄膜102,如標籤。非生物可降解部分可藉由可回收利用之材料製成。
在部分實施例中,生物可降解之材料係以一種澱粉基的基質形成之一澱粉基的母體。適合用於本發明之實施例之基質係如以下所揭露:美國專利申請號10/928,602,申請於2004年8月26日、美國專利申請號11/285,508,申請於2005年11月21日、美國專利申請號12/168,049,申請於2008年7月3日、美國專利申請號12/257,289,申請於2008年10月23日,在此可併參考。
在部分實施例中,非生物可降解之內薄膜102及頂蓋薄膜層101在特定條件下具有所需之特性。所需之特性包含,例如,濕氣的阻隔能力或抵抗能力、氧氣的阻隔能力或抵抗能力、及其他氣體的阻隔能力或抵抗能力。此特定條件包含,例如,低溫(例如,冷藏或冷凍)、室溫及高溫(如微波爐或烤箱中)。內薄膜102及頂蓋薄膜層101可包含單一或複數下列聚合物:聚乙烯(PE)、聚乙烯/醋酸乙烯酯共聚物(EVA)、非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)、聚醯胺6(PA-6或nylon 6)、沙林(Surlyn)(鋅及鈉之離聚體)及聚酯薄膜或任何在此揭露之薄膜。在部分實施例中,非可降解之薄膜係由希悅爾公司(Sealed Air Corp)所製造之不同類型之多層次薄膜,例如,T系列形成網(例如,T0xxB,其中xx為10-90;T11xxBA,其中xx為40及80;及T70xxBZ,其中xx為10-90)、真空表面封裝(VSP)之薄膜(如V170BZ)及真空表面封裝系列複合材料。此外,此薄膜可為單層、或者包含至少2、3或4層、或可包含最多7、8、或9層。
在其他實施例中,加工為所需形狀之材料可為生物可降解、部分或實質上為生物可降解、或非生物可降解,且薄膜層或隔層可為生物可降解、部分或實質上為生物可降解、或非生物可降解、或任何上述之組合。對於任何上述之組合,使用者可分離此隔層,如,分別處理。
在部分實施例中,該系統係用以作為一食物之容器,其中該食物可為液體食物(如飲料、湯)或包含少許水含量之固體食物。
在其他實施例中,該系統為一湯或飲料之容器,其包括一生物可降解之容器;一內薄膜102位於容器之內表面,藉此湯或飲料可以液態形式置入該容器中;及一位於該容器頂部邊緣之頂蓋薄膜層101,其附著於內薄膜102、生物可降解之容器、或均有,藉以密封湯或飲料至一密封之空間。
此可剝離密封之結合或剝離強度較佳為足以承受預期的使用條件以免過早損壞,但結合的強度要夠低,以達成易於打開的特性。上述之“剝離強度”係關於可剝離密封之剝離強度,如圖二所示,其係指由基質202上分離此可剝離層所需之力量大小,例如,將內薄膜102從生物可降解之杯狀部分103之內表面剝離、或將一頂蓋薄膜層101從內薄膜102剝離。“可剝離之密封強度”是用來描述在可剝離薄膜(102)及基質202之間的可剝離密封之強度,其可使得在可剝離層及基質表面層之間所形成之可剝離密封之剝離或結合強度達到易於打開之特性,例如,結合強度範圍約為0.5磅每英寸寬(磅/英寸,lb/in)至約4.5磅/英寸。上述之“易於分離”及“易於剝離”或用於生物可降解及非生物可降解之材料、及/或薄膜及結構之相似手段中的詞彙“易於”,係指實質上可藉由終端消費者將其剝離。例如,其包括,但不侷限於,結合或剝離之強度約為0.5至約4.5磅/英寸。其他可剝離之密封之有效的剝離強度包含從約1至約4.5磅/英寸、從約1.5至約4.5磅/英寸、從約2至約4.5磅/英寸、從約0.5至約4磅/英寸、從約0.5至約3磅/英寸、從約0.5至2.5磅/英寸、從約0.5至約2磅/英寸、從約1至約3磅/英寸、從約0.7至2磅/英寸、從約1至約2.5磅/英寸。
剝離力量可由下列方法測定之,其包含利用英斯特朗試驗(Instron test)設備及一標準測試方法,如ASTM D903或ASTM F88,均可納入參考。利用上述設備在攝氏135度下,將希悅爾公司之T系列薄膜T7235B密封至生物圈所指定的拖盤材料PPM-100,可測得1.5至1.9磅/英寸之剝離力量,而其將被視為易剝離的。無關任何特定理論,可明白在薄片層及PPM-100之澱粉基之母體之間較低的剝離力量係因為在PPM-100材料中澱粉母體之濃稠表皮上,其凝聚結合(cohesive bond)的失效而造成。
本發明之另一觀點係關於一種用以創造可部分生物降解之系統之方法,藉此,非生物可降解部分可輕易由生物可降解部分分離。
本發明之又一觀點係關於一種用以創造可部分生物降解之系統之方法,藉此,非生物可降解之頂蓋層201可易於與位於生物可降解之容器表面上的非生物可降解層分離。在部分實施例中,剝離失敗會發生在澱粉基之母體,或位於或接近澱粉基母體之表面。
在部分實施例中,此方法包括將一生物可降解材料加工為一具有所需形狀之容器並在該生物可降解之容器之表面鋪上一層非生物可降解之內薄膜。在部分實施例中,該方法更包含將食物、飲料或其他所需物品置入該生物可降解之容器,其中該容器具有一內薄膜並在食物頂部鋪有一由非生物可降解材料所構成之頂蓋層201,藉以保護及增加此密封食品、飲料或物品之壽命。如上所述,頂蓋薄膜可附著至內薄膜、該容器之生物可降解材料、或上述二者之組合。
在部分實施例中,非生物可降解材料係先加工形成一薄膜,然後直接附著至該生物可降解之容器之表面。在部分實施例中,非生物可降解層係在該生物可降解之容器之表面加熱成形。在其他實施例中,該薄膜可加熱至一溫度使得該薄膜可附著至該澱粉母體,但可保留其完整結構以利於分離。一般而言,若該薄膜加熱至一可使薄膜融化之溫度,以上所述將無法達成。例如,可保留薄膜完整結構、可使薄膜附著至拖盤、及可使薄膜由拖盤剝離之較佳溫度。在其他實施例中,若需要維持在可保留薄膜完整結構之溫度時,可利用一滾輪或平板以確保適當的附著。在另一實施例中,該薄膜可藉由,如,黏著劑或其他中間物,間接地附著至該生物可降解之容器之表面。
在另一實施例中,一方法係用以處理如本發明所揭露之可部分生物降解之材料。該方法包含提供一可部分生物降解之物品,其包含一生物可降解部分及單一或複數非生物可降解薄膜部分,藉由將單一或複數非生物可降解薄膜部分從生物可降解部分剝離,可使得生物可降解部分與單一或複數非生物可降解之薄膜部分實質分離,並分別處理生物可降解部分及單一或複數非生物可降解薄膜部分。
在部分實施例中,此二非生物可降解之薄膜係由相同或不同的材料所組成。非生物可降解之薄膜之所需特性包含,如,濕氣、氧氣之抵抗能力及在不同條件下其他的大氣特性,此不同條件係如低溫、常溫、高溫和微波爐中。

由上述的例子可得知,乙烯-乙酸乙烯酯共聚物(EVA)、沙林(Surlyn)、低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)、非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)片及聚醯胺6(PA-6)可有效地附著至托盤,其中乙烯-乙酸乙烯酯共聚物(EVA)及沙林(Surlyn)可比低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)附著的更好,而低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)可比非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)片附著的更好,而非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)片可比聚醯胺6(PA-6)附著的更好。

Claims (13)

  1. 一種多層次容器,包含:一第一部分,包含一大體上生物可分解之澱粉基質;及一第二部分,包含一非生物可分解之薄膜,其係附著於該第一部分之內表面,其中該非生物可分解之薄膜包含聚乙烯(PE)、聚乙烯/醋酸乙烯酯共聚物(EVA)、非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)、聚醯胺6、沙林(Surlyn)或聚酯薄膜;其中該第一部分與該第二部分之間的結合強度約為0.5磅每英寸寬至約4.5磅每英寸寬。
  2. 如請求項1所述之多層次容器,更包含一第三部分,其包含一非生物可分解之薄膜,且附著於該第二部分以在該第二部分與該第三部分之間形成一腔體,其中該第三部分可輕易於該第二部分與該第一部分分離之前先與該第二部分分離。
  3. 如請求項1所述之多層次容器,其中該第一部分包含:水;澱粉;及纖維。
  4. 如請求項1所述之多層次容器,其中該第二部分包含適用於食物包裝之抗濕氣或阻隔氧氣之特性。

  8. 一種多層次容器,包含:一結構部分,包含澱粉基之基質;及一內薄膜,包含至少一聚合物,其中該聚合物包含聚乙烯(PE)、聚乙烯/醋酸乙烯酯共聚物(EVA)、非結晶聚對苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(APET)、聚醯胺6、沙林(Surlyn)或聚酯薄膜;其中該內薄膜係附著於該結構部分,該結構部分與該內薄膜之間的結合強度約為0.5磅每英寸寬至約4.5磅每英寸寬。
  9. 如請求項8所述之多層次容器,其中該內薄膜及該結構部分之間之該結合強度約為1磅每英寸寬至約4.5磅每英寸寬。
  10. 如請求項8所述之多層次容器,其中該內薄膜可從該結構部分剝落,而無須使該內薄膜之黏著失效。
