GEORGE VOLNAGEL, BREMERTON, WASHINGTON.
MAKING MOLDS FOR SHOE-LASTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. November 28, 1911.
Patented May 21, 1912.
Serial No. 662,811.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE VOLNAGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bremerton, in the county of Kitsap and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Making Molds for Shoe-Lasts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for forming molds for molding shoe lasts.
My device provides means adapted to be inserted over the persons foot and inserted into a molding substance whereby when said foot is withdrawn heated metal may be allowed to run into the opening formed thereby, and harden, thereby forming a shoe last.
My device further provides means adapted to be inserted over a persons foot and inserted into a molding substance whereby an opening is formed to conform with the outer surface of the persons foot. When the foot is withdrawn, heated metal may be introduced into said opening and allowed to harden. The last that is formed from the metal after it has hardened, will conform with the shape of the persons foot whereby a shoe may be made upon said last, as this will be obvious from hereinafter disclosure,
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention relates to such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invent-ion in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a mold casing. Fig. 4: is a front elevation of my in-- vention, showing the same disposed within a molding substance. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the mold casing. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a section of the molding substance after my invention has been withdrawn therefrom.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred form of my invention the numeral 1 designates the stocking formed of sections of elastic material which aresecured together as shown, to form a fin 2. I do not limit myself to the specific means for securing the sections together, however they being preferably fused. It is now obvious that by providing an elastic stocking and elastic fin, different sizes of feet may be inserted into the stocking without distorting the fin.
I provide a mold casing 3 which is made in sections the purpose of which will be hereinafter fully described and specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the operation of my device I dispose within the mold casing 3, a. molding substance of any desired type as shown at 4. A persons foot is then inserted into the elastic stocking 1 and inserted into the molding substance 4. The substance is then allowed to harden and the casing withdrawn from the same. It will be readily seen that the fin 2 serves to separate the molding substance into two parts, whereby the foot may be easily withdrawn. The two sections of the molding substance may then be secured together by simple means (not shown) and heated metal let run into the opening formed by the elastic stocking whereby a shoe last may be formed. It will be appreciated that the last thus formed will be slightly smaller than the persons foot, this occurring from the width of the fin 2. It is my object to make the last slightly smaller because of the fact that the shoe formed upon the said last will fit the persons foot more readily than one which is formed upon a last the exact size of the persons foot.
It will be readily seen from the foregoing that when a shoe is made upon the last the interior thereof will conform with the shape of the persons foot that was inserted into the elastic stocking 1 whereby persons can have their shoes made in this manner.
It is thought from the foregoing thatthe advantages and novel features of my invention will be appreciated.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, an elastic stocking to be received by a persons foot, a fin carried by said stocking said stocking and fin to be inserted into a molding substance for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the character described,
an elastic stocking to be received by a persons foot a fin carried by said stocking ing to receive a persons foot, said stocking 10 and extending from back and bottom thereof said fin and stocking to be inserted into a molding substance for the purpose described.
3. In a device of the character described, an elastic stocking having a fin secured thereto, the said fin extending from the front, back and bottom thereof, said stockto be inserted into a molding substance, said fin adapted to separate said substance into parts as described.
GEORGE VOLNAGEL.
