Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARCHIBALD CRAWFORD, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOA'P-DISHES AND BRUSH-RACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 108,765. dated November 1, 1870.
the invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section (in av vertical longitudinal direction) of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in a combination of a brush rack or holderwith a soap-dish in such a manner that the soap and brushes can be kept separate, and each may bein a position for ready use, the object of this invention being to supply a long-needed article, which will dispense with the necessity of using two distinct and separate articles which are indispensable for holding the said soap and brushes as they have heretofore been held.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it in reference to the drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, the same letters indicating like parts.
The drawings represent the invention, which I prefer to construct of glass or earthenware, and consists of the soap-receptacle A, which may be made of any suitable form, and the brush receptacle or rack B. The said receptacle B rises up from near one end of the base of the article on an incline, as shown in the drawings, in such a manner that the brushes will be kept separate from the soap, and will also be capable of supporting each brush on its handled end-in an inclined position. To keep the brushes separate from each other when several are placed therein, I run one or' more partitions, a a, from the top to the bottom ofthe receptable B, as shown, whereby several separate divisions, b b, may be made, each to receive a single brush or other appropriate article. Should it be intended that each such division b b shall be occupied by brushes similar to each other, I would number each division, as l 2 3, as shown in Fig. 1which numbering would enable one or several persons to designate a particular brush, provided care be taken to replace the brushes properly in their particular and designated divisions.
I ,do not coniine myself to any particular form or size of the receptacle B, or to its eX- aot position, or to the relative sizes or number of the divisions b b the said receptacle B is made to contain, as fancy or special use might suggest modification of some of the parts varying from that shown in thedrawings.
By Iny invention the use of this single article will dispense with at least two separate articles which are now necessary to be used to hold soap and brushes, and will always present a neat appearance, and keep both the soap and brushes in readiness for use.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to 'secure by Letters Patent,
isv The combination' of the receptacle B with the soap-receptacle A, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
