To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOYAL V. BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jefferson, in the county of Ashtabula and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to boxes and more particularly to non-refillable or non-reusable boxes.

The object of the invention is to provide a box of this character which cannot be opened without breaking the seal and thus disclosing immediately that the contents have been tampered with or are not orig inal.

The type of box as shown herein is particularly advantageous for use in connection with candy shippers where it is desired to insure the purchaser of the quality and quantity of the goods,

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawin which forms a part of this application, and, in which 2- Fi ure 1 is a top plan view of the box with portions thereof broken away. Referring more particularly to the draw-- ing, 1 represents the bottom of the box and 2 the top thereof. The bottom is provided, as is usual, with the end and side walls 3 and 4, while the top is provided with depending flanges 5 and (3 at its ends and sides. The flanges 5 and 6 are adapted to extend over the walls 3 and 4t and in this instance considerable space should be left between them to provi le for the locking strips, to be hereinafter described. These locking strips each consist of a relatively tough and flexible sheet of paper 7 which has its sides turned over into flanges 8 and The outside of these flanges 8 is suitably gummed, as at 10, and when applied the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Specification of Letters Patent.

guinmed surface 10 of the flange 8 is secured to the walls 8 and 4: adjacent their upper edges, as shown. This strip extends entirely around the box, as shown in Fig. 1, and fits closely against the walls 3 and 4, as will be readily understood. After the box is filled the gunimed surface 10 of the flange 9 is moistened and the cover put in place and pressed against said flange, thus securing the cover to the bottom and preventing removal of the same without breaking or cutting the strip.

It will be readily understood that the box cover may be raised from the bottom the full width of the strip 7, but as the strip extends entirely around the box the opening between the cover and bottom is closed and the goods, therefore, orotected.

What is claimed isz- 1. In combination, a box body having vertical walls, a cover therefor having flanges to cover the walls and an intermediate strip surrounding the box and connected to the walls adjacent the upper edge and to the flanges adjacent their lower edge, said strip being substantially Z-shaped and adapted to straighten out when the cover is raised.

2. The combination with a box body and a cover for the same, of a connecting strip arranged between the walls of the body and the flanges of the cover, said strip having oppositely bent flanges at opposite side edges, the outer faces of said flanges being gumnied and secured respectively to the walls adjacent their upper edges and to the flanges adjacent their lower edges, said strip being substantially Z-shaped in cross section and adapted to straighten out when the cover is raised.
