UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRITZ EILERS, JB., AND EMIL E-ILERS, 0F BIELSFELLD, GERMANY.
FITTING FOR LOOSE-LEAF BOOKS.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRITZ EILERs, Jr., and EMIL EILERS, both subjects of the German Emperor, both residents of Feilenstrasse 1, in the city of Bielsfeld, Germany, have invented a new and useful Fitting for Loose-Leaf Books, of which the following is a specification.
The loose leaf book fittings hitherto employed have the great disadvantage, that the tubes or pins, which hold the corresponding-Ly perforated leaves, were usually rigidly secured to the framing of the fitting. Such fitting could, therefore, be used only for given distances of the perforations of the leaves. This has been found to be a great disadvantage, as it is thereby impossible to use a possible stock of perforated sheets, when a fitting can not be obtained to suit the distance of the holes.
The present invention relates to a loose leaf book fitting, in which the pins for holding the loose leaves can be adjusted optionally to any distance of the perforations in the leaves.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same.
The back a is fitted in known manner with the two jaws b, which are adjustable to suit the different widths of the books. These jaws b have a dovetail groove 0 in which the pins cl slide with their sockets e by means of dovetail heads f. The jaws b are also provided with slots 9 through which screws h pass, which adjustably hold the prismatic heads f and thus also the sockets c and the pins d in the jaws b.

We have shown preferred and satisfactory constructions but obviously changes could be made within the scope of the appended claims.
We claim:
1. In a fitting for loose leaf books, the combination of a back, a pair of jaws carried by said back each provided with a longitudinal dove-tail groove, a plurality of pairs of complemental sheet-engaging members provided each with a dove-tail head fitting and slidable in the grooves in said jaws, and set screws associated with the heads of said members for. securing the same in any adjusted position.
2. In a fitting for loose leaf books, the combination of a back, a pair of jaws carried by said back, each of said jaws being provided with a longitudinal groove opening on the interior face thereof and a plurality of spaced slots in the outer face communicating with said groove, a plurality of pairs of complemental sheet-engaging members provided each with a head arranged to slide in the grooves in said jaws, and a set screw passing through each of said slots and threaded into the respective head of one of said sheet-engaging members.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention, we have signed our names in presence of two witnesses, this day of 11 December 1913.
