Description

E. N. SIMONEAUX.
PAPER BOX. APPLIOATIOIIIILED JULY 1a, 1913.
mggww, Patented M21112, 1915.
EDWARD N. SIMONEAUX, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
BAYER BOX.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Application fl1ed July 19, 1913. Serial No. 780,065.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD N. SIMON- nxnx, citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Boxes, of which the following is aspecification,
This invention relates to paper boxes.
The object of the invention is to provide a paper box composed preferably of pasteboard or the like which is foldable so that the blanks of which the boxes are formed may be transported or stored in great numbers in comparatively small space and in use at'various times for the purpose of filling and delivering them to the purchasers of goods they may be readily assembled and fastened without the use of cord and string and without the necessity of employing wrapping paper.
With the above and other ob ects 1n view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claim; it being understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion, size and minor details without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the inven- The box has two sides 12 and 13 which are fold-ablewith relation to the bottom 10 along the creases a. Formed at one edge of the bottom 10 is a strip of material B creased along the lines 6, c, d, 'ande forming sides 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. The strip B is integral with the bottom 10 from f to g and from f to h and from g to i the strip B 1s separate from the side members 12 and 13. In other words, the edges of the side members 12 and 13 adjacent the corresponding edges of the slit 7) are slitted from the points it to f and from g to 2'. c
To fold the box the sides 12 and 13 are folded along the creases a and disposed at a d1rect right angle to the bottom 10. The s1de'16 is then folded along the line j and the sides 15 and 17 are then folded along the creases e and (1 into engagement with the outer faces of the sides 12 and 13'. The side members 14 and 18 are thenfolded along by the side member 21 by folding the latter over the interlocked side members along the crease k. The box is now ready to be filled and it may be noted that by virtue of the sides 15 and 17 overlapping the sides 12 and 13, respectively, that two opposite sides of the box are double walled. It will be noted also that by virtue of the interlocking relation of the sides 14. and 18 and the overlapping thereof by the side 21 that this particular wall is practically of three thicknesses. Hinged along the crease m of the side members 21 is the top 22 of the box which is preferably provided with transparent material 23 so that the goods of the box may be seen through the transparent material. The top or closure 22 is provided with flaps 24 and 25 having tongues 26 and 27,. respectively, adapted to be inserted between the walls 17 and 13 and 15 and 12 through the slots a formed in the sides 15 and 17. i The closure 22 is provided with still another flap 28 which may be folded along the crease 0 down into overlapping relation with the aforesaid side 16 so that the sides 16 and 28 form a double wall for the box and so that all of the walls by virtue of the overlapping relation of the sides 28 and 16 are reinforced by at least two walls. The flap which forms the side 28 is provided with a flap 29 ada ted to be folded against the bottom 10 of the box. This 'fiap 29 is provided with a tongue 30 adapted to be inserted through'the slot 11 in the bottom of the box so as to completely close the box. The weight of the goods in the box tends to hold the locking tongue 30 in the slot 11.
My improved boxes are so constructed that they do not require wrapping paper nor the use of string or cord to fasten the same, thereby saving not only the expense of the Patented Mar. 2, 1215,
" the upper edge of the outer side, an addi- .tional side formed upon one edge of the top, members secured to the outer edges of the additional outer'fside members, said members having interlocking notches pro- 1 ,mmoe
vided therein, said bottom and additional outer side members having slots formed therein, flaps provided upon the opposite edges of the top, tongues formed upon said flaps for insertlon in the notches formed in the additional outer side members, a flap formed on the additional side for engagement with the bottom of the box, and a tongue formed on said flap for insertion in the slot formed in the bottom member.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
