ASH-TRAY AND CIGAlRrREST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Application filed a as, 1916-. "s'emi No. 74,316.
Be it known that I, ERNEST OLnni nosGH, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of the city of New York-borough of-Brook lyn, in the county of Kings and' State of New York, have invented a. new'fand Improved Ash 'lray and 'GigarRest, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I V T Thisinvention relates :to ash trays and supports for cigars, and has for an object the provision of an improved simple ar rangement whereby the ashes'from a cigar may be readily dropped into a preliminary receptacle as the cigar is supported on' therest.
Another object 'in view is to provide a construction which includes a box or container and apairoff tiltable' members acting together, the tiltable members acting: as a combined rest and preliminary container for the ashes which may be readilyfdiscllai'ged'into the box-at any time.;. 1 In the accompanying drawings? Figure; I; is aperspective view of a deviceembodyin'ig the invention. j Fig-sis aside View otthei device with the moving parts in theirele-' vated or discharging position. Fig. 3 is an end view of the construction. shown in Fig. 2, the moving parts being shown open in dotted linesf-Fig. 4 is a sectionalfview through Fig.1 on line 4'4, the moving parts-being shown in their discharging po sition in dotted lines. .Fig. 5 is a detail fragmentary sectional view through Fig. 4 on line 5-5.
. Referring mule accompanying drawings by numera 1 indicates a box or container for receiving and storing the ashes until the same may be cleaned. Box 1 is provided with a lid 2 connected therewith by a-suit able hinge 3 whereby the box may be opened and closed whenever desired. The lid 2 is provided with an opening 4 for accommodating the pivotally mounted members 5 and 6' which present a preliminary or first receptacle for receiving the ashes 'from ci gars and the like. -Each of these members merge into an extension? having sides 8 whereby a rest is provided. Informing the box or container having 1 members '5 and 6 bottoms 9 and 10 are providedwhich merge into sides 11, 12, 13 and 14'.- The sides 11 and 14, for instance, are
provided-with a plurality of gear teeth 15 1 and-16, respectively, and straight portions .1? and 18, respectively, said straight por- 'tions meeting when the parts are inthe operative position, as shown in Fig. 1, and the toothedj'portions operating when either of my the members 5 or 6 is moved from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig.4. By providing this form of gearing-a simplestrong construction is produced and yet both members 5 and 6 are dumped when-either member is actuated. These members may be operated by grasping either of the extensions 7 and moving the same, or handle 19 maybe actuated. The sides 12 and 13 are constructed similar to the'side's 11 and 14 'so' that the movement of members 5' and 6 will be uniform. In
hinge movement ofmemand 6-. After some appreciable amount of ashes has accumulated the same may be readily dumped into the box 1 so'that'the device will look perfectly clean a'nd sanitary. It is of course evident that the members 5 and 6 may be dumped 'at any time in order to maintain the same from ashes.
What I claim is y ln-a device of the character described, a a lid provided with an aperture, and a pre minary ash tray arranged so as to fill said aperture when in operative position, said ash tray comprising a pair of bottom members contacting at their adjacent edges-and a pair of upstanding s des having interlock ng geared'portions so that when one bottom is raised the cleanan'd free. -90
