Be it known that ll, JOHN H. LA MoY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glens Falls, in the county of Warren and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Type- Writer Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the typewriter attachment comprlses in its construction a horizontal guide rod 1 mounted on the frame 2 of the typewriting machine and constituting a track for a roller or wheel 5 of a paper supporting frame. The track bar or rod 1, which is disposed transversely of the machlne at the back thereof, is connected with the same by bracket arms 6 preferably composed of sections 7 and 8 connected together by a bolt or screw 9 and secured to the frame of the typewriting machine by two of the screws 10 thereof. The bracket arms may be mounted at any convenient point and they are provided at their rear ends with clamps 11 adapted to securely and firmly hold the track rod. The clamps are formed by bending the bracket arms on themselves and connecting the loops or bends by a screw 12;

The roller or wheel is mounted in a lower section 13 of a supporting standard which is composed of the said lower section and i an upper section 1% located at the center of the paper holding frame and adapted to support the same on the frame of the machine. The upper section 14 of the standard has an angular-1y disposed arm 15 at its lower end and the lower section 13, which is in the form of a loop, is composed of two sides and a connecting bottom portion, the sides being secured by pivots 16 to the arm 15 of the upper section 1 1 of the standard. The upper section 1 1 of the standard is split at the upper end and provided with an opening to form a clamp 17, which r ceives a main transverse supporting rod 18 and which is provided with an adjusting screw 19 connecting the sides of the clamp and adapted to cause the same to securely grip the main transverse supporting rod.

The main transverse supporting rod is provided at its ends with arms 20 having inwardly projecting pins 21 at their front ends and provided at their rear ends with clamps 22 constructed similar to the clamp of the standard and adapted to adjustably secure the arms 20 to the rod. The arms 20, which extend forwardly from the rod 18, are adapted to be arranged at different distances apart to suit the width of the carriage of a typewriting machine, and the pins 21 extend into openings 23 in the knobs 2 1 of the platen of the typewriting machine. By this construction the paper carrying frame is supported upon the carriage and is connected therewith and is adapted to slide with the carriage, the roller or wheel of the standard being mounted in the loop of the lower section 13 and being retained on the track ,bar by the loop which extends beneath the able fastening devices to the rod or bar 18,

which is adjustable in the clamps 22 to arrange the sides .of the paper carrying frame in the proper position with relation to the platen of the machine. The front end member 26, which connects the front ends of the sides of the paper carrying frame, is pro videdwith a cutting edge 28 and constitutes a knife for severing the paper after the same has been typewritten and has passed through the machine. The sides 25 are provided with a plurality of bends 29 of approximately U- shape adaptedto receive a rod 30, on which a roll of paper (not shown) is mounted. The rod is provided with washers 31 and it has winged nuts 32 which engage threaded terminal portions of the rod and which are adapted to clamp the bends at the outer sides thereof for securing the rod 35 in the same. The rod' is adapted to be transferred from one bend to another to arrange the paper in the desired position, andalso to bring the paper nearer to the back of the platen as the roll decreases in size.

The device is simple, practical and adapt-- ed to be readily applied to various types of machines and does not interfere with the free use of the machine, and will enable a roll of paper .to be substituted for the ordinary sheets of paper for use in a typewriting .niachine. .Theltypewriting machine is adapted to be used in the ordinary manner and the paper from the roll will be passed underlthe platen and after it h as'been typewritten on it will be in position to enable it to be readily severed. by drawing it across the knife or cutting edge of the front transcopiesoi t his patent may be obtained forlfive cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents verse member of the frame of the uttucln ment.

lVhat is claimed is:

1. A typewriter attachment including a transverse track bar, means for mounting the same on a typewriting machine, a paper carrying frame composed of a transverse supporting rod, side bars secured at their rear ends to the supporting rod and provided intermediate of their ends with bends forming seats, a knife connecting the front ends of the side bars, a standard secured to the supporting rod and provided with a roller arranged to run on the track bar, and means for connecting the supporting rod of the said frame with the carriage of a typewriting machine.

2. A typewriter attachment including a transverse track bar, means for mounting the same on a typewriting machine, a paper carrying frame composed of a transverse supporting rod, side bars secured at their rear ends to the supporting rod and provided intermediate of their ends with bends forming seats, a knife connecting the front ends of the side bars, a standard secured to the supporting rod and provided with a roller arranged to run on the track bar, and arms adjustably clamped to the supporting rod of the said frame and provided with pins for engaging the knobs of the platen of a typewriting machine.

3. A typewriter attachment comprising a transverse track bar, means for n'iountiug the same on the frame of a typowriting machine, a paper carrying frame proridml with means for connecting it with the carriage of a typewriting machine, and a standard composed of an upper section secured to the paper supporting frame and having a pivot at its lower end and a lower section consisting of loop mounted on the said pivot and extending around the track bar and provided with a roller or wheel mounted with-- in the loop and arranged to run on the track bar.
