Description

'J OHN CHARTER.
Improvement in Apparatus for Molding Cigars.
No. 126,018. PtentedApril23,1872.
W'itnesses: I luv r ltor UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JOHN CHARTER, OF STERLING, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN APPARATUS FOR'MOLDING CIGARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,018, dated April 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN CHARTER, of Sterling, in the county of Whitesides and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machine for Molding Cigars; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
vided, near one end, with a plate, B, having two upward-projecting ears, 0. Between these ears is pivoted a lever, D, having on its under side a follower, E, somewhat in the shape of a cigar, and the under side of said follower is hollowed out its entire length to fit one-half of a cigar. On the same pivot that secures the lever 1) between the ears 0 is placed acopper funnel or conductor, G, of such shape that the follower E will fit snugly in the same.
The manner of operating the machine is as follows: The lever or handle D is raised to about an angle of forty-five degrees, and a half-mold, H, is placed within a rim or box, a, on the bed A. The lever is held by the left hand, and the conductor G is pulled down by the right hand to rest on the half-mold H. The machine is then ready for the bunch or filler of a cigar, which is pressed down with the fingers until the bunch or filler'restson the bottom 5 then take hold of the lever D and press down, which'presses the cigar through. Then raise the lever with the conductor at once, and place the other half-mold H over, and put a clasp, b, on the two half-molds. The operation is then complete, and the machine left in position for the next mold.
The machine is so constructed that the joint must be kept sufficiently tight so that the lever with the follower will stay up at a convenient point, so as to be out of the way of the operators hands.
Having thus fully described my'invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described machine for molding cigars, consisting of the bed A with rim a, lever D with follower E, and conductor G, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In'testimony that I claim the foregoing I have'hereunto set my hand this 27th day of January, 1872.
. JOHN CHARTER. Witnesses:
