Description

HAROLD F. RANDALL, OF TIFFIN, OHI.
nnawrne-ivracnrnn.
innesca..
Application lcrl May 1, 1918.
To all eli/tom t may concern:
lie it known that I, HAROLD F. RANDALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tiiin, in the county of Seneca, State of hio, have invented a new and useful Drawingl\acliine, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relates to a machine for the mechanical drawing ot letters and figures by means of prepared tracing patterns including mechanism for controlling the `n'lovement of a drawing pen and means for regulating the size of the drawing.
The speciication is accompanied b v two drawings, Figures l and 2.
Fig. l, is a perspective view of the machine and Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same.
Similar letters roter to similar parts throughout both views.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the rod A, is suspended :from the supporting standard B by the flexible joint C (preiAA erably a ball joint) which provides :for the movem ent ot the lower extremity of the rod and allows the tracing point l). which is inovably sleeved on the rod, to follow the lines of the tracing pattern M. '.lhe horizontal bar E, with its side extensions, F, l?, is supported by the swinging arm G, and by pivotalljv connected hangers H, H, and thus confined to a horizontal movement, causing the drawing pen attached to the hinged holder l, and the post J to maintain a `vertical position. This arrangement also eliminates friction. and resistance in the movement of the bar and members.
As shown in Fig. l, the arm G, swings on pivot bearings N, N. rlhe bar lt, is connected by a pivot O, with the arm. The ends Specification of Letters Patent.

ol the hangers l-l, l'l, turn on pivots, P, l), and Q, Q, extending respectively irom the side extensions and the supporting standarr'l overhead.
The holder' l, is hinged by pivot bearings R, R, to the side extensions which allows a vertical movement of the pen. The socketed member l, carrying the ball joint L, is niovable on the post. The rod A passes through the ball member of the ball joint, which is movable on the rod, thus providing for the joint, by means of which the size ot the drawing, compared with the pattern, is regulated.
y means of the mechanical combination above described, a given movement of the tracing point is made to impart a proportional movement to the drawing pen. Thus, for example, by following the lines of the tracing pattern with the tracing point the pen is made to produce a drawing that will correspond to the pattern.
l claim:
In a drawing' machine, a vertical rod suspended trom a supporting standard bj* a flexible joint, a tracing point, having a sccleted extension, movable on the rod, a horizontal bar having at one end side extensions, a swinging arm supporting the other end oft the bar, hangers supporting the side extensions, a holder with a drawing pen attached thereto and hinged to the side extensions.` a post attached. to the side extensions, a soclreted member movable on the post, a ball joint movable on the rod, and connect ing it with the socket-ed member, and means for reinovabltT carrying tracing patterns un der the tracing.;` point.
