12v VENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NOBMON ANDERSON, OF DULUTH, MINNESOTA.
LU'G Eon TRACTORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1920.
Application filed February 18, 1919, Serial No. 277,902. Renewed January 26, 1920. Serial No. 354,247.
. To all whom it may concern:
' bars rigidly fixed to the'outer circumferential surface thereof.
The object is to provide a lug that is quickly applied or removed and one that is durable and eflicient in operation.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application and in which like reference characters indicate like parts;
Figure 1 is the rear elevation of one of the improved lugs,
Flg. 2 1s a slde elevation of same,
Flg. 3 1s a rearmost corner elevation, taken at right angles to the diagonal face through whlch the hole for attaching the lug occurs,
Flg. 4; 1s aside elevation oppos te to that shown in Fig. 2, V
Flg. 5 1s a top plan vlew of a fragmental portion of a tractor wheel equipped with four of the improved lugs, and
Fig. 6 1s a bottom plan view of one of the lugs.
The lug is provided with two depending shank members 1 and 2 the former bem a a- 7 b proximately twlce the length of the latter and provided w1th the vertlcally elongated through-hole 3 which accommodates the bolt that holds the lug in place.
The two shanks are spaced apart form, diagonally across the lug, the rectangularshapedchannel a, which 'ts over the outwardly extending web of the angle-bar which, as before stated, is rigidly fixed to the wheel. I
The lug in plan, View is substantially rectangular shaped, except that one rear corner 6' is cut away parallel with the vertical wall of the channel a, this being done for the pur pose of lessening the weight of the lug, and
it is removed from a portion thereof which will not lessen its strength.
The upper termination or face 7 of the lug is inclined'upwardly toward the forwartedge thereof, said inclination being preferably that of about sixty degrees, which in practice-has proven to be very satisfactory.
The front face 8 of the lug is entirely straight except that the lower portion of one corner is cut away, as at 9, to form a fiat surface parallel with the adjacent ,wall of the channel 4:.
This flat, surface is for the convenient application of a suitable nut which is applied to the bolt, not'shown, whichholds the lug in place, the hole 3 occurring approximately I inthe center thereof.
The hole 3 is made elongated to permit of the bottom of the shank 1 fitting down,
firmly upon the tire or face of the wheel of the tractor.
From the foregoing it is apparentthat I have devised a simple and strong tractor lug and one that may be arranged to the bestadvantage on the wheel, resulting in the least bumping action thereof when the lat ter is in motion with the lugs applied, they being set well in from the edges of the wheel, as shown in Fig. 5.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a tractor wheel having diagonally disposed transverse angle bars, fixed to the outer face thereof, of lugs substantially rectangular in plan view, llElY-' ing diagonally disposed channels in the shanks thereof and fitting over the protruding portion of the angles, and holes in the shanks in which bolts may be employed for holding the lugs to the angles.
2. The combination with a tractor wheel having angle bars fixed to the ground-en gaging face thereof, of lugs having inverted Lshaped shanks and means for securing the longer portion of the shanks to the projectinq' portions of the angle bars.
Tn testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
NORMON nnnnnson.
Witnesses G. M. OUELLETTE, S. Gno. S'rnvnns.
