To ll-whom it may concern Spain, residing at Mexico city, Federal DistrictyMexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cardboard Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in boxes made from cardboard or other siiitable material, and its object is toprovide a blank which, when properly disposed and folded, will constitute a boxof simplestructure with asliding lid that can only herenloved by the application of force Once it has been inserted in position; and to provide a box with one end cut away so as to permit of the easy extraction of the uppermost article contained therein; and, fun ther, to provide a box with a separate compartment to contain matches, distinctlyseparated from the main compartment, which may be used to carry cigarettes or tobacco.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, in
which:
Figure 1 is aviewof the blank designed for the constructionof a match-box.
Fig. 2 is a view of the flat slidinglid showing the projecting stops, whichare used in all of the various forms of the 'box.
Fig. 3 is a View of a blank used fOTtllB false bottom.
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a matchbox, with part of the side removed show the double bottom.
Fig. 5 is a view of a blank designed for the construction of a combined cigarette and match box.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the false bottom for the combined cigarette and match box.
Fig. 7 is a view ofthe slidingmatch container, and j Fig. 8 is a perspective view ofthe combined cigarette and match box, with part'of one side removed to show the tom. 1
The blank usedafor the construction of the matchbox is composedof thebottom (1), an end (2), which may be provided with emery or the like for striking matches, and a cover (3), which in this instance is provided with a circular aperture (4). Lateral strips or flaps (5) and (6) project from the cover (3) and lateral flaps (7) and (8) double botform a box.

fromthe bottom (1), whichalso carries the otherend piece (9) with itstabs (10). This blank, when folded as seen in Fig. 4,0011
stitutes a box into which are inserted the false bottom (11) with itslateralfiaps (12) and 13), and the sliding lid (14) ,to whose under side is stuck a thumb-tab (15) for operating the lid. At the rearend of lid (14) there is made in each of its edges an obliqueslit, forming atongue (16) whichis adapted to be bent downward. When the lid isinserted inthe box, these tongues offer noresistance, but when the lid is pulled out the tonguesstrike against end piece and act as stops. Inthe interior of the box along each of itssides, there are stuck alongftheir lower edges two strips or guides j(17)\in such mannerthat their free upper edgesiii- Cline-slightly inward, so as to support the sliding lidiind prevent it from fallinginto thebox. p
Referring now to the combined cigarette and match-box-Figs. 5, 6, 7, and 8 ?(18) is the bottom of the box and (19) the rear end-piece uniting the bottom with the cover (20), from whoseedges project lateralfiaps (E21) and (22), while from the edgesfof the bottom "(18) project lateral flapsieey and (2 1). Along the median lineot each of theselateral fiapsis a breaker field (25), which causes them to incline slightly inward from the sides of thebox. From tliebottom piece (118) there also projects the front endpiece, (26),withits tabs (27) mates) nd .with an elongated aperture (29) cat-in it to admit the match-container: :In this-instance, the cover (20) isprovided with an strip (19) in such a manner as to permit of contained in the box, in the "illustration a cigarette, whenthe blankis folded so as to. In Fig. 6 is shown the false bottom (31) with latera1flaps j(32) and (3 3), and rearend-pie'ce (34) "folded downward, but with front end-flap35 bent upward so :thatit may be affixed to thefront end-piece of the box (26). The match-container consists of. a long sheet (if cardboard out and folded as shown in Fig. 7. It consists of a cover (36) rear end-piece (37), bottom (38), front end-piece (39) and lid (40). A thumb-tab (41) is affixed to the under side of bottom (38) and the matches are contained in a strip of corrugated paper aperture (30), which extends into the end or cardboard (42), providing a separate and mdlvldual compartment for each match.
Means for striking matches can, of course,
be provided anywhcre'on this combined cigarette v and match-box. Thumb-tab (41) should be so disposed on the under side of bottom (18) as to allow the necessary play.
