COAT-COLLAR FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 31, 1921.
Application filed December 7, 1918. Serial No. 265,730.
To all whom it may aoncem:
Be it known that I, GUIDo F. SOHLOTE,
citizen of Germany, residing at Afton, in the county of Lincoln and State of Wyom'ing, have invented new and useful Improvements in Coat-Collar Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
It is the principal aim and object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character to be attached to one lapel of a coat and to the opposite side of the coat for fastening the lapels of the coat in overlapping relation beneath the neck of the wearer thus obviating the provision of buttons and button holes in the lapels of the coat.
As an equally important object this inven tion contemplates the provision of a device of the above mentioned character designed so that when not in use the body may be folded and fastened in such a manner that the hooks act as guards for each other permitting of the safe carrying of the device in the pocket and preventing the tearing of clothes, etc.
It is a more specific object of the present invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character wherein fasteners are connected to the elastic body and positioned to act as guards for the attaching hooks carried in turn on the ends of the body.
It is an additional object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part hereinafter set forth.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, the combination of elements and the arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the appended claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a 'front elevation of the device applied.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional detail showing the fastener applied.
Fig. 3 is an inside elevational detail of the device extended but detached.
Fig. 4 is a sectional detail of the device wlpen folded, and
*ig. 5 is a to Ian detail of the devic when folded. p p 8 Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is illustrated a coat 1 the lapels 2 of which are arranged 1n overlying relation beneath the neck of the wearer and held in such position by means of the improved fastener generally designated by the numeral 3.
In the present instance the fastener consists of an elastic strip like body 4: at one terminal of which is connected a separable socket member 5 while at the other terminal there is rigidly connected a resilient headed member 6 for a purpose that will presently appear. Carried by the ends of the strips are attaching hooks 7 having their shanks preferably formed with rings 8 for engagement with the grooved edges of the disk like bodies of the members 5 and 6 for insuring of the anchoring of the hooks with respect to the elastic strip body 4 and so that the shanks of the hooks 7 will extend longitudinally from the body 1. The side edges of the shanks and bills of the hooks are tapered to points at the ends of the the bills.
In use, to hold a coat collar fastened about the neck of the wearer one of the hooks 7 is anchored in one of the lapels while the strip is extended to lie across the meeting edges and finally the other hook is anchored in the other lapel as indicated, the hooks, of course, cooperating to hold the strip in place to consequently insure of the fastening of the lapels in overlying relation without the employment of buttons, etc. When not in use, the hooks are disconnected and the strip folded while the resilient headed member 6 is engaged on the socket member 5 to pre vent accidental disengagement of the folded portions. By folding and fastening the strip in this manner the hooks are positioned to lie in juxtaposed relation and the head member serves as a guard for the hook on the socket member and vice versa, so that the device when folded can be conveniently carried in the pocket of the user.
It is believed in view of the foregoing description that a further detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
Vhat is claimed is:
A device for the purpose indicated embodying an elastic strip, a head member carried by the strip adjacent one end, a socket member carried by the strip adjacent the other end, and attaching hooks having their shanks formed in rings embracing respectively the head and socket members on the peripheries of the latter, the hook portions lying in planes at right angles to the plane of the strip, the head member and socket member being engageable, whereby the hooks become oppositely disposed, so that if separately engaged with a garment or piece of goods they will become locked in such engagement upon the connection of the head and socket members.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GUIDO F. SCHLOTE.
