Definitions
- This invention relates to improvements in links for tractors of the endless tread or track type, the object of the invention being to produce a combined link and shoe so formed that the strain of the pull of any tooth of the driving sprocket wheel is directed simultaneously against a pair of adjacent links and transmitted directly through the metal thereof instead of the strain coming on the connecting pin of such adjacent links.
- Another object has been to produce such a link construction as will have a minimum of wearing surfaces, and which has no knuckling surfaces to impound dirt therebetween.
- a further object is to provide a simple and inexpensive link and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the purposes for which it is designed.
- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a pair of adjacent and connected links.
- Fig. 2 is a sectional view of one link taken on a line 2-2 of Fig. 1. 7
- the numeral 1 indicates the tread portion of the link which is preferably of ridged or V-section with the apex thereof adapted to rest on the, ground. Projecting horizontally from the ends of the .upper edges of the treadportion and transversely thereof are spaced bosses 2, those on one end being in staggered relation to those on the other end so that the bosses on the adjacent link may -aline themselves therewith.
- the pair of bosses on one end most centrally located are connected to those on the other end of the link by parallel Webs or ribs 3, the outer faces of these ribs being smooth and adapted to ride on the rim 4 of thesprocket wheel or idler.
- These ribs are of course in substantially offset relation so that they project from the faces of one pair of bosses to the opposite faces of the pair on the other end of the link.
- This construction permits of a straight alinement of the webs 3 throughout the track, and also provides for the positioning of a boss of each adjacent link in close alinement between the ribs.
- a link for tractor tread sections comprising a tread portion, parallel and horizontally alined webs arranged to support the rim of a sprocket wheel and to receive the teeth thereof therebetween, and transverse bosses adapted to receive the sprocket teeth thereagainst at the ends of the webs projecting therebetween, to a point adjacent the central 5 plane between the'webs, the boss at one end being in opposed relation from that at the other end, to permit the bosses of adjacent links toaline with each other and fit in the spaces between the inner termination of the bosses and the opposed webs.
