VACUUM CLEANER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWIN A. Prams, acitizen of the United States, residing at vIilford, in the county of New Haven and state of Connecticut, have invented certain er and useful Improvements in Vacuum Cleaners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to new and improved' manually operated vacuum cleaners, having for its object among other things, to so design and construct the same that the maximum efficiency may be obtained, and at the same time the device be so simple in its design that it may be economically constructed and readily assembled.

'l'o these and other ends, my invention consists in the vacuum cleaner having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be more particularly described and pointed out in the claim.

Figure 2, is an enlarged sectional view of a portion thereof taken upon line 22 of Figure 1.

The vacuum cleaner herein shown and described, is of the same general type as that set forth in II. S. Letters Patent- No. 1,093,173 issued to me April 1-1, 191 1, and in general consists of a vacuum cylinder 10, and a piston cylinder 11 which are separably secured together. The cylinder 11 has a piston therein that is operated by a handle 28 and the open end thereof is closed by a cz-vlindrical head 12. The open end of the vacuum cylinder is provided with an. inwardly turned flange 19 and closed by a. conical head 13, having a straight flanged vortion l l provided with threads or corrugations 15 which engage similar threads or corrugations 16 on the vacuum cylinder 10, whereby these parts are sepa-rably secured together.

Fixed to said conical head is the nozzle pipe 17 on the lower end of which is a nozzle 18. Secured to nozzle pipe 17 is a cup 20 upon which is fixed, by any preferred means, a dust bag 21, within the upper end of which is a sleeve 22, having threads or corrugations 23 thereon to receive the threads or corrugations 24 on the flange 25 of theclosure cap 26.

This closure means provides a simple and practically indestructible device that is easily manipulated to open and close the dust bag. If it is desired to empty the dust bag 21, the conical head 13 is unscrewed from the vacuum cylinder 10, after which the cap 25 is removed and the dust emptied from the bag, after which the cap is returned to its closure position.

Minor changes and alterations may be made within my invention, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not; limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A vacuum cleaner, composed in part of a substantially cylindrical receptacle, a nozzle pipe, a conical head, having straight flange portion, and secured to said nozzle pipe so that said straight flange portion is substantially parallel with the axis of said nozzle pipe, a cup of less diameter than the inside diameter of said receptacle fixed to said nozzle pipe adjacent to and inside of said conical head with its open end facing the same end of said nozzle pipe as that of said conical head, and a flexible bag fixed to and in part enclosing said cup, and projecting beyond one end of said. nozzle pipe, both said receptacle and the straight flange of said. conical head being threaded, whereby the said conical head. nozzle pipe, cup and flexible bag may be detachably secured as a unit to said receptacle.
