Description
Ptatented Deco l2; I 1920 HoDrawing. v
' To all whom, it may concern:
Beii't known that 1, PAUL Dnn, a citi- Zen of the Republic of "France, a dresiding at Paris, Seine Department, X09124 Rue 5 de Provence, in the Republic of France, engineer, have invented certain new and useful Filaments Composed ofBasalt, of
which the following is a'specification.
This invention relatesto a method for the use of basalt wherein the basalt is melted and is transformed when in a pasty condition into fine threads. These latter have very flexible character and may be. substituted-for textilefibres for a great number of uses. The threads may be employed alone, or in combination with other threads or fibres, in the manufacture of fabrics, cables, cords. trolley supports. submarine I cables, and the like; Ba saltthreads thusprepared are advantageous in that they are notattacked by the ma or part of chemical substances and are excellent 'non-conductors of electricity. v
- The threads are easilyobtained by drawing out melted basalt for instance/after l Application'filed April 15, 1921. Serial No. 461,641.
the same manner as threads of glass or like I material are produced. --It is advantageous to maintain the thread for a certain time at a temperature in proximity to 800 C;
and to avoid all sudden cooling, and in this manner a wire having a de-vit'rified texture and a. great flexibility may be obtained. 1
Claims. r 1. As a new product, a filament, for the manufacture of fabrics, cables, cords andv other textile articles, said filament being ponstituted-by basaltwhich is melted and subjected to the drawingprdccss. a a I 2. As anew'product, a filament'for the manufacture of fabrics, cables, cords and other textile articles, said filament constituted by basalt which isimelted and subjected to the drawing process and is given a crystalline structure by -annealing; In testimony that I claim the'foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witness. 1
