To all whom z't may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE G. CASH- MAN, a citizen of the United States, resid-y ing at Wa nesboro, in the county of Franklin and tate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chaser Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in Chaser holders and particularly to details of construction thereof,
The Chaser holders now in use are provided with beveled or dovetailed locating channels on the chasers to seat upon angular or dovetail channels on the holders, and the chasers also are provided with clamping shoulders or dovetails adapted to be engaged by one edge of a Clamp or lock bar, the other edge of which engages in a clamp angle or lock bar channel formed in the Chaser holder. 'Ihis construction is such that great pressure is necessary on the clamp or lock bar to hold the Chaser from lateral movement, due to the small amount of frictional Contact furnished by the locking elements. f
It is one of the objects of my invention to simplify the locking ofgthe Chaser so that a minimum of pressure is necessary on the locking bar to maintain the Chaser in an immovable position.
In carrying out this part of my invention, I increase the frictional contacting surfaces of the Chaser and lock bar by forming a series of longitudinally extending serrations thereon whichrit into corresponding serrations cut in a parallel plane on the Chaser holder or block.
A further object of my invention is to improve the construction of the Chaser adjusting means. The disadvantage of the resent type is that after the Chaser has Eecome worn and is ground ed and is comparatively short the screw has moved alongv into the screw way so far that the head is not exposed and it is necessary to use a screw driver to make adjustments, and also renders it necessary in changing from a short Chaser to a long one, to retract the screw through all of the distance it has traversed, which obviously takes a great deal of time and trouble.
In carrying out this part of my invention I provide a screw carrying stop or block mounted upon a spindle adapted to enter one of a series of openings or holes in the path of travel of the Chaser. The end of the screw bearing on the rear end of the Chaser, and large adjustments being made by advancing the stop or blockI from one hole to another.

The Chaser holder 1 (Fig. 2) has a Chaser seating face 2 formed with longitudinal serrations 3, and a lock bar channel 4, 'with similar serrations 5, extending longitudinall thereon.

rIhe Chaser 8 is made with a seating face 9, having longitudinally extending serrations 10, formed to interlock with the serrations 3 on the Chaser seating face, the Cutwardly projecting serrations of one face extending into the inwardly formed serrations of the other.
The chasers are provided with lock har contact faces having seri-ations 11 formed thereon. n This lock bar contact face takes the place fof the dovetail `angle or shoulder now in lse. `It will be obvious that the use of serrations in lace of smooth faces insures much greater rictional contact and that the chasers will be held immovable by comparatively slightpressure on the lock: 1 bar.
At convenient intervals 1n the chaser holder and perpendicular to the main body of the chaser are formed the holes or openings 15, to receive the spindle 16 of the screw carrying sto or block 17, in which the screw 18 vis rotata ly mounted. One end of the screw bears V against the rear end of the chaser for longitudinal adjustment thereof.
In making adjustments on the chaser, as when inserting a long one in place of a short one, the stop or block is lifted up` and removed from the hole in which it is support.- ed and moved to any other hole that 1t may be convenient to use. Obviously this precludes the necessity for retractlng or advancing the screw to any great extent.
I claim:
1. In a cutter head, a chaser holder havy ing openings, a chaser and means for holding said chaser in position on said chaser holder, and means supported in one of said holes or openings' and capable of removal and insertion in other of said openings for longitudinal adjustment of said chaser.
2. In a cutteryhead, a chaser holder having openings, a chaser and means for holding t and means coo erating with the openings in said holder or longitudinal' adjustment` of said chaser.
3. In a cutter head, a cha'ser holder hav.- ing o enings, a chaserand means for holding. the chaser in position on said holder, vand a screw carrying block and a spindle /Iiolder and formed with two e chaser in position on said holder,v
adapted to cooperate with said o enings for longitudinal a justinent of said c aser.l
4. In a cutter head, a chaser holder llavmg openings, a chaser having chtting serrations on one face and clamping means for holding the chaser in position on said holder, the contacting surfaces of the/jchaser, chaser holder and clampin means being formcdwith serrations para lel to the first mentioned serrations so that a maximum frictional engagement is had and the chaser is held a ainst lateral movement, and `means cooperating with the openings in said holder for longitudinal adjustment of said chaser. y
5.
