UNITED STATES GEORGE W. LANCE, OF KINTA, OKLAHOMA.
ROAD GRAPE-R.
Application filed April 30, 1923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that GEORGE W. LANCE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Kinta, in the county of Haskell and State of Oklahoma, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road Graders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to road grader land side and its object is to provide a structurewith an adjustable land side which will work on any size or make of grader and can be made of light or heavy structure and also may be made large or small as the size of the grader requires.
With the adjustable land side the grader blade cannot run or suck into the road bank or hand up. It can be set so that one can cut off as much or. as little of the bank as may be wished and no more or-it can be set to hold the blade entirely out of the bank as the work requires.
The invention will be best understood'from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strictconformity with the showing in the drawings but may be changed and modi- 80 fied so long as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claim. a
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan View with some parts in cross section of a road grader constructed in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of the structure shown in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a'section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a hinge member employed in the invention.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a mold board structure 1 and at each end of this mold board there is secured a triangular frame 2 consisting of a frame section 3 and other frame sections 4 and 5 joined to the end of the frame section 3 by hinges or pivots 6 so that these frame sections 3 may be extended or contracted about the hinges joining them to vary the angularity of the 5&- frames 2.
Serial No. 635,468.
Each frame 2' has one section 4 connected at each end to the adjoining sections and each section 4 is providedwith a longitudi- 'bracket 11 carriesa lever 13 of the first order with one end 14 mounted on the bracket 10 and carrying a pin 15 adapted to pass through any preferred one of the perforations 7 At chosen intervals along the mold board 1 there are pairs of hinge elements 16 with one of each pair made fast to the mold board 1 by means of pivot pins 17 so that byadjusting the angular relation of the members 4 and 5 the projection of the said members 4 and 5 from the mold board may be regulated, such regulations being effected by the position of the pin 8 with respect to the perforations 7. The angular relation of the mold board is determined by reach rods 18 attached to the mold board near opposite ends thereof and by the levers 13 acting upon the frame sections 3, 4 and 5.
What is claimed is:
A grader comprising a board, a land side frame section hingedly connected with one end extremity of the board and at the rear side thereof, the exterior surface ofv the frame section being in alignment with the end edge of the adjacent end of the board, overlapping frame sections hingedly connecting one of them with the board at a point between the ends thereof and the other with the first mentioned frame section, a guide for the overlapping frame section, and means mounted upon the guides for adjustably securing I the overlapping frame sections in fixed positions with respect to each other, whereby the angular relation of the first mentioned frame section with respect to the board may be varied, said overlapping frame section being disposed transversely of the hinge joint between the board and the land side frame section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
GEORGE W. LANCE.
