IMPROVEMENT IN END-GATES FQR WAGONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,813, dated May 12,1874 application iiled April 4, 1874.

thereof, reference being had to the accompany-V ing drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an end-gate for Wagons, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my tail-board for wagons, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same when opened.
The tail-board is made .in two parts, A and B, the former being L-shaped, and the latter inthe form of an inverted L. The two horizontal parts are pivoted together by a pin, a, passing vertically through them, so that the two parts A and B can open and close, as desired. The inner edges of said parts are be`veled, as shown. On the outer sidencar each end of the tail-board, is fastened a vertical bar or cleat, C, to pre-vent the warping of the tail-board. To the out-er side of the partA is pivoted a latch, D, the outer end of which is out with a tenon, b, to enter a groove on the -inner edge of the cross-bar C upon the part B. The sides of the wagon-box in which this tail-board is to be used are to have vertical grooves for the insertion of the ends of the tail-board, and when these are inserted therein, the center of the tail-board is pressed forward, making it straight, z-ber which the latch D is t-urned down across thejoint to hold the tail-board firmly. To prevent the latchi'rom jumping out by jolting, a bolt, d, may be attached to the upper edge of the latch at its outer end, and made to enter `the cross-bar C.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i The tail-board for wagons, composed of the two L-shaped parts A and B, pivoted together by a vertical pin, a, the 'cross-bars C C, and latch D, all combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
