COMBINED SHELF AND, BRACKET.
Application filed February 17,- 1923, Serial No. 619,646. Renewed January 30, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARvn) F. OARLIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mamaro vented cert ments in C neck, in the county of West- New York, have inain new and useful Improveombined' Shelves and Brackets,
of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to furnish an i and bracke attached to folded from th port the she the shelf bottom. A further-object provide a d a towel bar mproved form of combined shelf ts, in which the brackets are the-shelf so that they can be e position in which they sup- If to a position-lying flat against of the invention is to thischaracter in which to hold the brackets. in
evice of is used position for use, and. brackets act to sup port the towel bar,
but which is removed to'permitthe brackets to be folded against the shelf.
In the ac drawings illustratinvention, a front elevation.
companying Fig. 2 is a plan view, partly broken through the shelf. I K r Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Fig. 4 is a partial front view showing one bracket folded.
Fig. 5 shows one bracket.
Fig. 6 indicates the towelrod- Fig. 7
Fig. 9 is shelf.
shows in perspective the corner a bottom view of this shelf in for this corner Fig. 11 shows the bracket with the hook omitted.
As shown in Figs. 1-6, the shelf 1 is of oblong form and is provided with a pair of brackets,
which in teach composed of a single rod, his form, are identlcal. Each bracket as shown comprises a wire or rod having an lower end to form an has a bend upright portion 2, bent at the inclined portion 3, that 4 at the top to provide a free depending portion 5 with a hook 6 at the lower end.
This bracket is attached to the lower face of the shelf 1, at the bend 4, and
also on the upper end of the portion 2, that is bent to extend rearward at 7. These portions 4 and 7 have a hinge attachment to the conveniently as shown, th
shelf. In this arrangement I provide a by a staple 31.
of these brackets are e member, that.
shelf by suitable means, 1
as indicated in Fig. 4.
will retain thebrackets in this positiontas' shown I provide a bar 9 havingat each end an annular groove 10, which passed downwardly into each hook 6, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. This will serve to retain the brackets in the depending. po-
- sition, and will also furnish a convenient rod One or both ,to receive a towel or the'likeof thebrackets are provided with means for attaching the shelf to. a wall. these views, therear extension of the shelf,
.As shown in 7 is bentupwardly at 12 back portion is with the extremity bent to form an eye 13 at will belocated just above the rear, so that the attaching screws passed through theeye and into shelf at the 14 may be the wall to support the shelf. This eye interfere. with the folding portion will not of the bracket.
' In Figs. 7-1O Ishow' a substantially similar form of bracket, applied to a corner shelf 20 having'two sides 21,- 22, at a right angle with a curved front portion 23, I further provide a bracket member composed of upright portions 25 and 26, connected by an inclined portion 27,, with ahook 28 at the front free end. -.The rear portion 26, has a rearward. bend 29 at the bracket to be" hinged to the shelf bottom Another bracket is provided for this shelf comprising two upright ortions 32 and 33 connected by an incline portion 34, with the hook 35 at the front lower end, and a bend at 36, and also a rearward ext-ending portion 37. The portions 36, 37, are hinged to the shelf by staples 38. One of these brackets has a rear extension for attachment to the wall, and with a corner shelf one support only is required as the side edges of the shelf will engage the corner walls and prevent shifting ,of the bracket. The rear extension 29 is provided'with an upright portion 39 containing an eye 40 extending above the shelf, to receive a screw 41. A tower bar 42 with curved end portop to. permit the I plied through the eyes,
a 26 and "the and}; can 1% show-n in Fig. 11, where "cline'd forw ard portion tion 43 serves to engage the hook end :28 and 36, to "support the bar, and to retain the brackets in position for use.
It will be thus seen that lzlila'we provided a shelf with a simple and efficient form of brackets each made up merely-0f 1anodnaind these brackets are attached to the shelf by staples to fdlddown a ga inst the shelf, when not in use, that will permit convenient stora geor transpontationo f the shelf. When it is to be used, tl-ie brackets are merely swung to the upright positions and connected the "towel rod and the screws or nails apto the wall. And he device is easily and quickly taken down for removal or storage. I
If desired the leg or depending portion omitted. "This is the bracket (C0111- prises an upright portion 45, with an in-- 4L6 havinga *bend at the top to engage the staple 31 This 'bradket has the rear extension &8 with an eye 49 to engage the screw.
Fig. 1 shows "a bracket'sim'i lar to Fig. 3, with the dependi-n'g part and' hodk '6 omitted Here the bracket: is formed of a vertical portion 51 and anincl ined portion 61 with a smajll bend 52 to engage the=staple. Thisbraeket has a s'tiaightiportionb' l extending "rear-ward with an eye at the re ar 'to {engage the screw. i
