Description

Nov. 8, 1927.
1,648,608 J. P. DEVLIN BATHIN'G CAP Original Filed Sept. 10' 1921 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 8, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. i
JOHN P. DEVLIN, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T ABRAHAM POLAKOFF, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK; BERTI-IA T. DEVLIN ADMINISTRATBIX OF SAID JOHN P. DEVLIN, DECEASED.
BA'IHING CAP.
Application filed September 10, 1921, Serial No. 499,645. Renewed September 16, 1927.
This invention relates to bathing caps, and the principal object is to provide a device of this nature which shall be provided with positive means for preventing the entry of 3-, water into the ears of the wearer.
Another object is to construct a device of this nature in which the pressure of water will cause the ear protecting means to effectually seal the ear. I
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a bottom view of my improved bathing cap.
Figure 2 is a sectional View on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side view of the cap.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, represents the body of a bathing cap which may be of any suitable construction. To the outside of the body 10 at each side where the ears of the wearer will be contacted, are secured reinforcing pieces 11 of rubber which are held in place by any desirable means. Similar reinforcing pieces 12 are secured on the inside of cap in registry with members 11. Holes 13 pierce the members 11 and 12; and at the centers of members 12 are arranged inwardly projecting flexible posts 14:. The posts 1 1 support sacks 15 of thin flexible rubber the inner ends of which are closed and the mouths of which are secured to members 12 so that all of the apertures 13 thereof open into the sacks.
In use when the cap is adjusted to position, the sacks 15 are inserted in the ears by aid of posts 1a, and when the wearer enters the water, the water passes through apertures 13 and distends sacks 15 so as to seal the ears against the entry of the water.
Vhile I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my in vention, it is obvious that many of the details of construction may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
WVhat is claimed as new is:-
A bathing cap comprising a body portion, sacks secured to the inner face of said body and communicating with the exterior thereof by apertures formed therein, and flexible posts secured to said body and extending into said sacks.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
JOHN P. DEVLIN.
