Angle-bar 62 at its middle carries a bentbar camv or leveiiactuator 79 in the same vertical plane as and adapted to operate the arm et? through its terminal roller 48.
Then the hinged or rockable bedstead is in nl'iright or inactive position as depicted in Figure et, the various elements occupy the relations shown and the base frame is iullv contracted and occupies but relatively small tloor space.
As the 'bedstead is swung down to active position, the several springs 53 becomeelon- @rated and strained and act to counterweight 'thcbedsteach at least in part.
During' such descent of the bedstead or frame." thelinks T-'lswing forwardly and ultin'iatcly the lugs T? enter the shallow wickets or recesses TS, whereby that part ot the hcdsload shown in the drawings etfectively and efliciently supgorted` the portion ot the bedstead not illustrated being supported by legs in the usual manner.
The upward travel oit' the angle-bar 52 is transmitted through the springs 51 to the lever 43 and the latter is rocked down autoreeaoe Vfhen the bedstead is rocked upwardly, the lugs T7 leave their sockets and the supporting,` links Tl swing rearwardly.
The base trame, however, remainsexpandcd or extended until the cam member or actuator 79 engages the roller 4S, whereupon` duri ng the continue-l upward turning ol the' liedsteatl, the lever i3 is positively elevated progressively andA the base frame is correspondingly contracted by the telescoping` action hereinbefore referred to.
Hence the base expansion begins' practically as soon as the dou-inward rocking action of the bedstead is initiated and is completed well before the downward swingingr is Vconsummated.
On the other hand, liowever,`the base remains fully brlpadenedV or enlarged untilthe bedstead has been swung up' about one-halt of its travel, its contraction or' diminution of size gradually occurring during the remainder o'l the elevating` movement of' the hcdstead. Y
From an uiulerstandingl of this present preferred construction-and its mode of operation` the manner of 'attaining the several advantageous objects will be quite apparent but it is't'oV be ren'iembered that the invention is not* limited orrestricted to the precise Vand exact details of construction since these may be modified within comparatively wide limits and still'fall within the purview olf the invention as defined by the appended canns. j
We claim: i
Vl.v In a folding-bed structure, the combination of a main base-frame, a supplemental hase-frame slfidably mounted 0n said main base-'frame and 4adapted to enlarge and contract the base-frameas'a whole, a hedlos frame rockingly mounted on said main-frame,
a link connected to the front of said supplemental hase-frame, a lever `fu'lcrulned on said-main base-trame and connected to said link. spring means connected to Said Vlever and bed-frame, and cam means between said hed-frame and ever, whereby when the bedtrame is rocked down to horizontal position it tensions said spring means to project the supplemental base-tramo fully forwardly during` the initial downward movement ot the bed-frame, said cam means retracting said supplemental base-traine during the latter portion only of the upward movement of the bed-frame.
