G. H. VAN VALKENBURGH FILING DEVICE Filed Oct. 19, 1925 l LJ ATTORNEYZO' :1 Gfmaa/ilhrlhlrmamm 11v /ENTOR Patented Apr. 24, 1928. i 7' NIT EDS-Tarts GEORGE HANSON VANVALKENBURGH, or NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE. I
FILING DEVICE.
Application filed 0ctober19, 1925. Serial 110.; 63,383.
My present invention relates to improvements in filing devices which while capable of use for various purposes is especially designed toprovide a counter prescription-file for pharmacists and others... The inven-- the use of a device having a separable mehiber or file-holder which member may be removed bodily from the device and replaced therein for transfer of contained filesor pre scriptions therefrom, and this member is also adapted for use with permanent filing devices in transferring the files to the latter devices. p 1
The invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of'parts as will hereinafter be more fully set forth and claimed. V
In the accompanying drawings 1- have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention, and its uses, in which the'parts arecombined and arranged in accordance with the best mode I have thus far devised for the practical application of the principles of my invention. i v 7 Figure 1 is a top plan view of the do vice of my invention. 7
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional viewat line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view in elevation showing a portion of the device in position for transferring files. 7
Figure 4: is a View illustrating the fileholder detached from its base and used with a pin of a loose-leaf permanent file showingthe manner of transferring files from the holder.
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail view partly in section showing the relation of the lower end of the post of the file-holder to the transfer pin in Figure 4; r p
In carrying out my invention 1 utilize a base member 1 of suitable size and shape, which may be cast from metal and is fashioned with a. lower flange 2 designed to rest upon the counter, desk, table or other support. At the under side of the base plate 1 are provided two bosses 3 and 4 preferably cast Lintegral. with the plate and-spaced a suitable distance apart. The boss i is des gned -to support'thefile-holder which is.
made up of wire, preferably of steel and properly fashioned torshape by meansof tools orv machines. The; file holder com prises a rigid straight ,post 5 having anacute angle or bend (land a resilient arm 7, the bend being designed to act as a separator forprescriptions or other papers on the file. Thus in order to gain access to a desired prescription filed on th e post 5, the prescriptions above the desired one are lifted and turnediover the bend 6 to the arm 7 in ver-' tical position, while the desired prescription remains in horizontal positionwhere it may be consulted with convenience.
The usual points is fashioned at the end of the resilient arm 7 for penetrating the paper files or prescriptions as they are entered onrthe file holder. 1
The separable-file holder is secured to the.
base by means of its post 5 which is adapted to be'inserted in thesocket 9 of the retainmg boss 4 and this boss also has a horizonjtally extending threaded socket 10 adapted to receive the screw 11 for clamping the file holder through its post in rigid position; The screw 11 passes throughan opening 12 in the flange '2 of the base and its head 13 is located outside the hollow base for ready access in securing or releasing the separable holder in the base.
The resilient arm 7 of the file holder is held by the post let and its hook, or bent upper end 15 in well known manner, and
this retaining post which is threaded at'its v detached from its retaining hook for filing papers in usual manner.
' 111' Figure 5 it will be seen that the lower' end of the post 5 is recessed as at 18 in the form of a conical bore for the reception, of the pointed end 19 of a pin 20. The pm lower end 16 is screwed into the threaded I 20 may be part of a permanent, loose-leaf file or book, and when the file holder 1s separated from its base and applied to this pin as indicated in Figure 4 the files or prescriptions may readily be transferred from the post 5 to the pin as indicated.
In Figure 3 the file holder has been removed from the base, reversed, and its pointed end is clamped by means of the screw 11. In this manner the prescriptions on the post 5 may be removed therefrom in regular order and pasted in a book for preservation.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent is- "A filing device of the character desc *ibed, consisting of a flanged base, a threaded boss depending from said base near one end thereof, a post having a lower threaded end engaging said threaded boss and having a hook at its upper end, a boss at the other end ol' said-base and depending therefrom and having a. vertical sinooth opening and also having a horizontal threaded opening at right
