Application filed August 17, 1926. Serial No.l 129,753.
The object of the invention is to provide a medical instrument particularly adapted for gynecological use andthe self-application b v the patient of a medicament to the affected part, particularly in a cavity of the body; to provide an instrument Ywhich may sists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is Villustrated in Y the accompanying drawings,
v wherein Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the invent-ion with the plunger partly retracted.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with the plunger fully retracted and the cap swung to open position, a collapsibleA tube being shown attached in the operation of charging. Y
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the plunger withdrawn and the cap in open position with a supplen'iental cap attached, as when the device is ready for transportation lafter charging. I
Figure 4 is a central vertical sectional view on the plane indicated by the line 4 4 of Figure 1. Y
`Figure 5 is a top plan View of the struc ture of Figure 1.
Designed particularly for the application of a definite dose of a medicament to inaccessible parts and particularly to the cervix uteri, the invention comprises the barrel 10 formed at the mouth or discharge end withV a spherical enlargement 11 for the distention of the parts, the discharge mouth of thebarrel being provided with a removable closure .v
`12, preferably, as'illustrated. a screw with a knurled head, so that the closure may be readily attached and detached. The barrel v at the remote or charging end is similarly enlarged, as indicated at 13, this rear enlargecontained dose.
ture.
ment being internally threadechl as at 14, for thev reception alternately of a discharge mouth 15 of a collapsible tube 16 or a *supplemental closure cap 17.
' A swingingcap 18 is hingedly connected with the enlargement 13 at the rear end exteriorly of the latter. the pivot pointjof thehinge being offset, as at 19, so 'that the cap'inay bev swung to one side of the barrel. The capl 18 acts as a guide for the staff 20 of the plunger 21, the latter fitting snugly the bore of Vthe barrel and the staff at the upper end being provided with a knob 22.
vWhen the plunger is fully retracted., it enters a counterbore 23 in thefswinging cap and.
the latter and the plunger and staif lmay be swung laterally so that the supplemental cap will expose the charging end of the barrel yand the plunger staii lie parallel with the barrel. The coupling of the collapsible tube v, i
with the barrel prior to the attachment of the closure 12 will permit the full charging of the barrelr and after the disconnectionof the flexible tube, thesupplemental cap 17 may be applied and the instrument and charge carriedl until it is desired to use the Thereafter the removal of the supplemental cap 17 and the swinging of the cap 18 into its position of closure over the rear end of the barrel will position the plunger in alignment withl the barrel and-its movement forward will serve to eject the contained charge or dose after the removal f of the closure 12, the `operation of moving the plunger forward, of course, following the insertion of the barrel.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is: f
A medical applicator comprising abarrel,
a cap swingingly connected with the barrelV at the end remote from the discharge mouth,
anda plunger snugly fitting the borerof the barrel and provided with a staff extending through and guided by said cap, .the cap and plunger staff being swingable into a position in parallelism with the barrel or into a position where the staff is axially aligned with the bore of the barrel, the staff, when Ythe plunger is engaged inthe bore of the barrel, retaining the cap in closed position.
In 'testimony whereof he ailixes his signa CLARENCE n. raler;
