TOOTHPICK HOLDER.

Application filed March 22, 1926. Serial No. 96,390.;

The invention relates to improvements in toothpick holders with aclosed container for toothpicks from which the toothpick is obtained by moving the closed holder vertically; and the objects of the improvements are:

First, to produce a sanitary toothpick holder; second, to provide a means by which the function of the machine is immediately apparent; third, to provide a means of determining instantly whether or not the con tainer needs replenishing; fourth, to provide a holder which occupies but one hand in obtaining a toothpick; and fifth, to manufacture a cheap, etlicient, and mechanically peri'ect toothpick holder by virtue of simplicity in all its parts.

The accompanying drawing illustrates the form of the invention, Figure 1 being a vertical cross section of the entire machine; Figure 2 being a plan of the cross section in Figure 1. The dotted lines in Figure 1 show the secondary position of the toothpick container with toothpick projecting from it.

As illustrated in Figure 1 there are seven parts to the toothpick holder. The functions of each part are outlined as follows:

Part 1-the base which a. Supports the whole machine.

I). Retains the bottom plate 2 by turning under and clinching the bottom edge, as illustrated.

c. l/Vith a shoulder formed near its upper extremity, acts as a stop to bottomparts of closed container 5 and 6 against the upward pressure of coilspring 3.

(Z. Acts as a guiding means to transparent top of closed container '7 when closed container is pushed down to its secondary position. v

Part 2-the bottom plate which a. Holds coi1spring3 in place.

21. Acts as a base to discharge rod 4 which i is aflixed thereto.

0. Acts as a stop and buffer to bottom piece 5' of closed container when closed container is forced down to its secondary position.

Part 3-the coilspring which is the means of automatically forcing the closed container back to its primary position after having discharged a toothpick. V

Part 4the discharge rod which is recessed at its upper end to engage the toothpick when closed container is forced down to "its sec-v ondary posltion, and which 1880 constructed at its other end that it can be riveted tom plate 2, as illustrated. v

Part 5bottom piece of closed container to botformed (the term closed container relates to parts 5, 6 and 7 acting in conjunction with each other) in the shape of an inverted cone with an aperture at its lowest point to admit discharge rod at and with the point of the cone slightly elongated and with rounded corners, as illustrated. Also having the outer edge so formed as to hold the upper end of coilspring 3 in place.

lVe are aware that prior to our invention toothpick holdersvhave been made embody-' slanting top and bottom acting in conjunction with a recessed discharge pin.- We therefore do not claim such an invention broadly.

We claim;

In a dispenser in combination, a stationary base' portion including a generally cylindrical casing wall restricted-at its upper end, a bottom wall interconnected with said casing wall, a magazine portion slidable in said casing wall, and including a .dome with a 'ing the ideas of a closed container with tapered upper end and a'd'elivery opening therein, anannular member having its upper portion telescoping within said dome and a V flange of enlarged diameter at its lower end extending beyond the outside edgeofsaid dome and cooperating with said-restricted upper end to limit the upward movement of said magazine, and a hopper bottom for said magazine telescoping with said flange and having an opening centrally thereof, said bottom Wall having an upwardly extending cylindrical portion of substantially the diameter ofsaid annular member, said cylindrical 5 portion having a central depression, an upright rod fixed in said depression and extending through the opening in said hopper maintain the magazine in elevated position.
