This invention is designed to overcome the defects noted above and to provide an envelope which is so made that it will read-.

ily receive the entire mattress, covered with usual sheet and rubber sheet, if desired, and which also receives-the infant and permits the ready tucking of the successive layers of cover in place over the envelope, so that there is no binding produced on the one hand, and also that the infant can not kick or push the super-imposed covers out of place, on the other hand.

Futher objects of this invention are to provide a mattress envelope for infants which is so constructed that a box-like bag is produced, accurately conforming to the mattress, and in which a side upper flap and a top flap over-lap the corresponding portions of the mattress; and in which a top cover is shirred and secured to the bottom portion offthe enevelope and to one side portion, so that the free insertion and removal of the infant is permitted, and so that the envelopemay also be freely positioned about the mattress.

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the envelope comprises a bottom portion 1, side portions 2 and 3, and end portions 4.- and 5.

The side portion 2 has secured thereto an 'upper'inwardly projecting flap 6, preferably the upper and lower ends of the flap 6 are 7 also attached to the portions 4 and 5; an upper end flap 7 is secured to the portion 4 and to the portion 3it is preferably Shirred, as shown in Figure 1, and overlaps the flap 6; a top cover 8 is secured to the side 3 and to the bottom 5it is preferably shirred, at its lower edge where it is attached to the portion 5, to provide the.

requisite fullness, as is apparent from Figure 2. v

The top cover 8and the side flap 6' are provided with fasteners, such as tapes 9, which may be tied to hold the parts together after the insertion of the infant.

The upper end flap 7 and the top cover 8 are also provided with fasteners, such as tapes 10, which may be secured together. In addition to this, the free end of the upper end flap 7 is provided with a fastener 11, which may be tied to the uppermost fasteners, or tapes 9 of the top cover 8 and side flap 6.

It will be seen that the mattress, covered with a rubber sheeting and the. usual sheet, may be positioned within the envelope, or bag, and due to the boxed construction of the bag, as shown in Figure 1, the mattress and bag will be securely held together.

Further, the mattress is over-lapped by the flaps 6 and 7. Thereafter, the cover 8 is turned back and the infant placed in position, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 2, with a pillow preferably placed over the upper end flap 7. Subsequently, the fasteners are tied and additional covers, such as blankets, etc., are positioned above the entire structure and tucked in place.

It will be seen that freedom is afiorded for the movements of the infant without any material or harmful restrictions thereof, while at the same time the infant is pre vented from kicking off the su er-imposed covers, as the infant is containe within the envelope for the mattress.

It is preferable to form the envelope of some fabric which is relatively strong and which may be freely washed, as desired.

It will be seen that a very simple, serviceable and relatively cheap envelope for a. babys 'I'nattress has been provided, which has the desirable characteristics enumerated above.

Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting, as the invention may be variously embodied, and as the scopeof such invention is to be be determined as claimed.

I claim:

A baby mattress jenvelope comprising a bag boxed to fit the mattress and having a bottoin, sides, and end portions, said bag having an upper side flap secured to a side portion and having an upper end flap se- 5 cured to an end portion, sald flaps forming inwardly extending portions adapted to over-lap the corresponding portions of .the
