To all whom it may concew Be it known that I, SYLVEsTER M. BUTTON, of Sellersville, in the county of Bucks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Knife-Scouring.

My invention consists in constructing the water-pan with lipsprojecting in dianetrically opposite directions, and entering-grooves formed in the inner faces of the sides of the box for convenient-ly and securely holding the box in position.

From the bottom of the box there 'rises a block, B, whose upper face B' is inclined, and between the end corresponding to the highest point of said face and the adjacent side a of the box there is a space, G. D represents a water-pan which is adapted to occupy one corner of the box A, and is removable therefrom. On the pan, at corners diagonal to each other, there are lips E E, which project in diametrically opposite directions, and in two adjoining sides of the box are formed grooves F F, which are so arranged that the lips E will enter said grooves.

The operation is as follows: The article to be scoured is placedon the upper face of the resting-block B, and the operatordips a piece of fabric or a pad successively in the ,scouring material in the box and water in pan same. The pan D can be readily removed from the sides of the box, for withdrawal of the Water, by simply lifting it from the box; and when said pan is to be fitted in position, either full or empty, it is only necessary to present theprojecting lips E to the top of the grooves F, and then force down the pan.

It will be seen that the lips projecting in diametrically opposite directions firmly secure the pan to the box without the necessity of other fastenings, and. the grooves are readily cleansed and are made directly in the sides of the box. The practicability, simplicity, and cheapness of the device are apparent.
